Just went to jetbook.net. There is a new update. The old one was 41.8 mb and this new one is larger and has a new version number. I am downloading now so I don't know what is in it. Just wanted to pop over here to let everyone know.

It's a beta. But I'm still going to install it.

Harry,

It is the beta. I have no epub books, but I did test with non-DRM mobi. It does work and looks nice. One funny thing is that I had to install the book to the SD card to get it to work. I don't know why (beta?). It seemed to open slower, but not by much. I guess I should hunt around here on MR to find an epub book. I would like to see how that looks on any device.

ePub works fine too. You can download ePub books from Gutenberg.org
They have many llustrated books in ePub format.

Thanks Kris! I didn't know that Gutenberg had the epub format. I will check them out. I did dl one from here and I agree, this is a nice a format and works well on the Jetbook.

I tell ya, I really liked the Jetbook from day one and it has paid off since they seem really dedicated to making this reader more useful.

Silly question - I am following the instructions on the web page for the firmware update.
I did this once before from my initial purchase, but when pressing 'power' and the 'right' key now (I am assuming the right key is the one on the right side of the 'OK' button) I do not get the update screen.
The sd card does have everything, was freshly formatted, any help appreciated.

I had a Sony, checked out the Kindle, my father was one of the driving forces behind E-ink, but I just like this better for my uses. SDHC would have been a nice thing, but I can live with 2GB. If the Argosy (in the US) i-book (SP?) had taken standard cards I would still be using it (outside of the fact that it got stepped on and cracked - I would have gotten a replacement).

YAY- had to do a reset to finish installation, had to do a reset to have the unit understand that another 2GB card was inserted. Did a quick sample of a few hundred palm pdb (MOBIPOCKET) files and a sampling of 20 of them was great. Downloaded three epub formats from Gutenburg, and was able to read them without any other issue than the font size.

This is pretty much another example of the wild claims made by Jetbook. Hanlin V3 for example supports everyone in that list and even more. The comparisons they make on their site against Sony and Amazon are mostly bogus. I am surprised that they can get away with these kinds of false claims in that the corporate headquarters is in the US.

Yes, I downloaded many ePub books from Gutenberg website and I like how it looks on jetBook screen especially illustrated books.

After the update, do the included dictionary(s) work with books in the new formats?

I love my Jetbook but am sooo disappointed with the lame English dictionary. Would be nice if a future update allowed the user to buy improved dictionaries and load them on the machine.

Looks like I'm having the same problem. Can't get the update screen after pressing power and the "right" key. Can anyone help out?

OK. Just updated. The instructions omit a step. Before pressing the power and "right" buttons you must press the reset button on the back of the unit. A complete set of instructions can be found here:

The dictionaries do NOT work with the new formats. I was hoping for a better default English dictionary (the included dictionary can't define words as simple as "cogent") but that didn't happen with the update. PRC book pictures show up nicely. A large PRC dictionary crashed the unit as did a MOBI book I tried to read. Rich text books were properly formatted but did not have dictionary support.
