Why do you want to do it in the device view? Do I understand correctly you want the collections only on your Kobo, but not in Calibre? If so, then no, there's no way to do that automatically. However, you can create a custom column in Calibre and have that as a basis for collections on your Kobo. You just can't do it in the device view.

For example, I don't use tags for collections. I have a special custom column named "shelves" to create and populate collections on my Kobos.

Wouldn't that be a series? Most (but not all) Raymond Chandler books are about the detective Phillip Marlowe. So under the tag 'Mystery' all Raymond Chandler books show, along with Arthur Conan Doyle and Dashiell Hammett. But under the Phillip Marlowe series, only Raymond Chandler books appear and not every one of them.

Something more complicated like the Dungeons and Dragons line of books, I tag them all as Fantasy and Dungeons & Dragons, but then I also tag them by their setting: Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun, Eberron. Then if those books are part of a smaller series (and most of them are) I add the series info. All three Dragonlance Chronicles books are under the Dragonlance tag. But not all Dragonlance tagged books are part of the Dragonlance Chronicles series.

Hello guys,
You're both right, to manage the collections through the tags is totally acceptable and I can create more tags if needed. And for the series, I just discovered a new way (that u probably already knew): to play with the "metadata connections" in calibre, so it rename at-fly and number the titles. I tried with the kindle and it works perfectly. I guess it'd work as well for the kobo but I didn't try, it's already wrap again.

For series you can create a tag that holds the series name and the order of the book in the series and have that transmitted to your Kobo device.

Do you mean a "metadata plugboard"? That is the usual way to modify into in books when sending them to devices. For Kobo devices this is no needed for series info. Kobo has supported series info for a long time. It is shown as a separate link in the book details, can be used when sorting, is one of the items searched when searching for books, and there is a separate list to show the series. Unfortunately, this isn't read from the book. Calibre can set the series info when the device is connected.

No need to do this. In Calibre, if a book shows as part of a series, it will also show as part of a series on the Kobo. No need to do anything.

See attached images for an example of series in Calibre and what Kobo will do with series, using Dragonlance Chronicles again as my example.

That's better and more elegant than on the Oasis.
@davidfor yes I believe it's this name in English. I've set the format and "{series:|| }{series_index:0>2s|[|] }{title}"
I must admit it looks better on the Kobo when I look at the photo of ZodWallop but it does the job.

Just remember to do another calibre connect/eject after the initial transfer.

I'm researching what to buy as well. I've read complaints about the Oasis 3 battery life, so after a bit of searching, I found the battery sizes.
Oasis 3: 1,130 mAh
Libra 2: 1,500 mAh

I'm thinking that might account for the greater weight of the Libra 2?

I don't think the weight affects how large the battery on the Libra 2 is. The Kobo Clara has the same 1,500 mAh but weighs only 166 g.

The Clara also has a smaller screen and case and lacks the extended bezel on one edge.
