Removing a format from the book does not remove it from the library

However, when I removed it, I saw that the epub file was still active in the library. I didn't get a prompt "Do [I] want to remove the file?", so that is a weird behavior for me. However, maybe that has an option somewhere to change it? 😕 |

How did you try to remove the MOBI? Via Remove books->Remove files of a specific format from selected books You have to select the format(s) you want removed - see attachment.or Via right click on the MOBI format in Book Details and then Delete MOBIor ???? BR |

Awesome suggestions! I removed it via the "Remove format from book" button in "Single Metadata Edit" view. Is it bug, or feature, that the file was still there? (I have manually removed it now) Does Calibre have a functionality to single out book files that are still in the library, but not referenced by any book entry? |

Library Maintenance: check Library will check the Database against what is there and list discrepancies. Those need to be fixed manually

Did you press 'ok' or 'cancel'? File changes in MDE aren't saved if you cancel -- I've been caught by that a few times.

Suggestion - if this is something you do regularly (as I do) give the Remove books->Remove files of a specific format from selected books action a keyboard shortcut, I use Alt+Del. Quote:

If Calibre has no entry, how does it know what to open? Errors can go both ways (because of events outside Calibre). Book Formats that are in folders that Calibre does not acknowledge (listed in the MDE). Books Calibre thinks it has a FORMAT, but it is missing in the folder it was supposed to be. (The entire folder could be missing) Calibre can store non-book formats. Calibre can have Empty Book entries (no formats, just the entry (metadata +cover ). The formats box has to agree with what is actually present in the folder to consider the record, error free BTW If you have 2 copies, the folder will have a different ID title (id) Note {ID} is not visible in the MDE. It IS visible in the Details Pane ID is not to be confused with Identifiers (abbr Ids in the MDE) |

Calibre use the DB entry to O(PEN) known folders If you do things right, it is RARE that you need surgurey. BTW Having a format (file) open in a 3rd party app can block the delete. I keep bumping into this reviewing PDF in my downloads and can't delete the file until I exit Reader

And, they're bureaucratic (form-filling), I do all I can to avoid bureaucracy. The only columns I can't change from the Book list are Comments and Identifiers. I avoid the first via a custom column and I don't make any use of Identifiers. BR
