				A successful day

Today I had two medical appointments. This morning was a session with my Orthotics fitter to pick up my custom shoes (which include a brace for the left ankle). The afternoon was a trip to the Retina specialist for this month's eye injections (both eyes ugh). I'm going to have to transition slowly to the shoes, from the fitted boot I've worn for the last three years. Reckon I'll start trying it tomorrow evening. The shoe is a whole lot lighter than the boot. The shoe is just under 20oz; the boot just under 48 oz. The shoe is a modified New Balance 928; with the left shoe made about 1/4" wider than the left (sole cut in half and extension added in). The eye shots are part of an ongoing treatment for Diabetic Macular Edema; it's expected to be an 18 month series of monthly shots (Lucentis). Luckily I'm enrolled in a study to see if the duration / frequently can be adjusted, with the side benefit being that the drug company covers whatever my insurance does not cover Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk |

I think the eye treatment is helping; I have a lot fewer floaters in the eyes these days (but that could also be related to all the laser retinal treatments last year). Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk |

Good to hear that the eye treatment is helping! I have a few floaters in my vision and the opthamologist simply writes it off as being a symptom of my age!

The transition to shoes went very quickly! I wore them for a few hours on the Friday with no issues and have worn them ever since. Of course having shoes has meant I can now get ice-cleats (grippers) to go under them for snow / ice. I decided to find some I could also wear insides (my job involves lots of indoor / outdoor walking) so didn't want any with sharp metal spikes which would be deadly on dry surfaces. I found some through a web site Winter Walking https://www.winterwalking.com/ and have bought a pair of the GRIPS-LITE model which uses aluminum oxide grit for grip. They're GREAT! I used them for two days now in the aftermath of a major snow storm (over 50cm of snow on Monday) and have felt quite safe on sidewalks / driveways / inside buildings whether they are snow or ice covered, carpeted or just plain floors.
