How do I replace the description on a non-sideloaded book?
I just bought a book on Kobo where the description is pretty much "the publisher didn't give us a description."

So I went and got the actual description elsewhere and put it into Calibre so it would update the Kobo metadata.

However, when I go to check the description on the book, I see my loaded description for a fraction of a second before it switches back to the store-provided one.

I also tried using Kobo Utilities to update it (with the option for Kobo books also checked) but that had the same results.

Updating other metadata works fine.

Is there an additional step I need to take to get this working?

On the Metadata, on device & advanced tab of the KoboTouch or the KobotouchExtended driver, do you have the Update purchased books option checked?

Yes. On Kobo Utilities' set metadata, I also selected the "update Kobo ePubs" checkbox.

You have to turn of WiFi. Any changes you make to the purchased books can be lost the next time a sync is done. And for the synopsis, it is fetched from Kobo each time it is displayed. I don't know of any way to prevent this apart from turning off WiFi.
