And I had noticed that sometime the error column was populated and sometimes it wasn't just didn't see why it was irregular, now I know it has to do with it being new or updated. Since I follow authors and not only stories, when I use e-mail update it means it's a mix of both new and updated stories. As for the popup. Yes that's how I know, but at first I assumed it always showed that error in the error column. Now I know it doesn't, still it would be nice if it would populate the error column. Because weather the story is new or updated, it doesn't change the fact the story contains failed chapter .For now I'll just have to check the log file in more detail to determine if it is a new or updated story. EDIT: While I was watching football while typing my reply Jimm has already updated. So ... yeah

Can I remove from "freeformtags" the tags which are already in the genre part? I thought I could do it with exclude_metadata, but no idea how. Is there an way to "reduce" or collect some tags together? AO3 has quite a lot of similar tags and that makes it hard to search. And if I use replace on every tag I will die of old age before I am done. |

This is a re-occurring topic. Search the thread for "ao3 tags".

The short answer is that there's really no winning with AO3's tag structure as long as they allow authors to enter anything they like. They even have a special team of "tag wranglers" (with documentation) to link authors' random tags to 'canonical' meanings. And before you ask, no, there's currently no good way for FFF to use those canonical tags. Looking up all the tags on a story isn't feasible when so many have dozens or even hundreds of tags. Not until they start having a mode or page where you can see the 'canonical' tags for a story instead of/in addition to the author's tags anyway. I will help you with specific replace_metadata issues; but as general problem, I consider it unsolvable in practical terms. |

I have really been working hard on my own going through each comment and re-reading the directions etc on how to do this work around. I thought I finally got it, but then I got this error

Directory does not contain a known browser cache type: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Calibre2' if someone could just point me in the direction of the post where i can find the best answer i will figure it out. I know this has been a pain for everyone and I don't want to be a pest. TIA |

There are a few examples how your browser_cache_path should look. Depending on the browser in which you are opening the fanfic-links. But I´m quite sure that "calibre" will not be included in it. |

@JimmXinu, I loaded the most recent test version and the FFF button disappeared from Calibre. I had to load the most recent official release to get it back. Any idea as to why this happened?

The easiest browser to get it working on is Firefox or one of its variants (like Waterfox). Go to about:cache in the browser URL bar and it will give you a page that contains the exact path to the browser cache that you can copy/paste into personal.ini directly after browser_cache_path: with no spaces in between. The line you want to copy is the entire path shown under the storage disk location in the disk section. Last edited by steltek; 07-01-2021 at 05:35 PM. |

If you restart Calibre in debug mode and post the log, it may tell us something. |

Metadata - Avoid multiple identical replacements

			Hello,

I gather the "category" metadata in a custom column and I would like to simplify the metadata while avoiding multiple identical values. For example, some fanfics are tagged as:
I set the personal.ini file to: Code:
add_to_replace_metadata: category=>The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien=>Tolkien category=>The Lord of the Rings - All Media Types=>Tolkien category=>The Hobbit - All Media Types=>Tolkien category=>TOLKIEN J. R. R. - Works \& Related Fandoms=>Tolkien Is it possible to either pick up (and replace) only the first tag in "category" or remove identical replacements? Thank you! |
