Had my first dose of AZ-Oxford today at the Sydney Olympic Park Vaccination centre. Getting there on PT was a PITA. Then I ended up in the wrong queue (line) - twice. The right one for me was the shortest one, but still quite long; so I found a bollard on which to park my bum. That prompted one of the marshals to come over and escort me to the front of the queue and put me in the staff lift (elevator) to the AZ floor - a trick to remember for next time My second dose is scheduled for August, but there's talk they may shorten the interval from 12 to 8 weeks. Also hoping they open up the the hospital vaccination hubs to Joe Public - at the moment they're by invitation only for critical workers and their household contacts. |

Had both of mine, and was slightly ill with the side effects from the first one, as were many of my friends and family. Fine with dose two. Then my friend emailed from Eire, she was fine with her first, but quite ill following her second dose!

I would hope that no one has shown you disrespect, since acknowledging your dignity is not contingent on agreeing with you. Respect should be a given among friends, should it not? I have no qualms with your voicing of opinions I do not share. I only have qualms with the castigation of members' characters when those members disagree with your opinions. And I appreciated the respectful way you responded to me even though you did not agree with me. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 05-29-2021 at 04:02 PM.

You should go back and research the posts where the very person I was responding to has ridiculed me as being sexist and obtuse - because I said "hysterical media reports" in a different thread when referring to sensationalist journalism. Nothing to do with sexism. Now I am being accused of implying that disabled people are dispensable. A very insulting and 100% false accusation. Both the sexist and anti-disabled zingers came in out of left field. No known reason for them, other than to insult. And in your world, this must all be OK to throw around insults and false accusations like that. I guess that's a fine thing to do. But if I mention that I lose respect for someone when they do things like that, well, that's not fine. Your logic is incomprehensible to me.

You seem to have no compunction about playing the immunocompromised card when suggesting how even vaccinated people should continue wearing masks in public. Then there was your post which as near I as could tell, suggested that everyone should be vaccinated for every disease regardless of their personal beliefs. Then we read a message suggesting that a poster implied that immunocompromised people should be considered dispensable. I think the phrase "not vanishingly rare unicorns and therefore dispensable" was your wording. As far as I can tell, in Canada, immunocompromised people were in the priority queue for vaccination but they are still warned to wear masks in public, wash their hands, stay home as much as possible, etc.. Basically not all that different from the flu season recommendations. And then we seem to have the odd beliefs about what herd immunity is. Last time I looked, all it is is the point at which the R value drops below 1. This may keep a disease from becoming an epidemic but it does not miraculously grant the unvaccinated immunity. A number much beloved by politicians who likely would not know the difference between R, Rₑ, and Rₜ nor be concerned about those differences.

So, wearing masks and get the maximum people vaccinated actually make sense. And, I don't know for Canada, but in France, some vaccine are MANDATORY. So, out the personal beliefs, in favor of the general interest. They were 3 and were updated to a list of 11 in 2018. BC might have clear recommendations, here in Ontario everything is chaotic and painful. And Quebec was not better at some point. Same for eastern provinces. Quote:

Had I said, "I watched a funny movie last night. It was hysterical." ... would you still have been offended? Same word. Same root of the word. Different context, just like "hysterical media reports" is a different context.

Now, do I think they are right doing so? 100%. Quote:
So, when you make the choice to not want to understand something like that, please don't bring it up to try to make a point at a different time / conversation. You're the one trying to victimize yourself.

If we are going to consider the root of every word we use, here or on any forum, we are going to drastically change how we talk.

I think it would be a great thing. Making the effort to be inclusive and respectful when someone explains a word I use is derogatory? Count me in!
