Check out the Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare (City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass). You mentioned Twilight; Stephenie Meyer is a huge fan of the trilogy.

Kushiel's Dart, Kushiel's Chosen, and Kushiel's Avatar all by Jacqueline Carey. My favorite fantasy/romance, though the "Sword of Truth" series by Terry Goodkind is a second close.

The Quickening trilogy, from Fiona McIntosh !
Lots of action/new developments, strong characters, politics, magic, a bit of romance...

Although, I think it can only be found in ebook form on Kindle.

My suggestion is not to purchase it because the rest of the series is not in eBook form and there is no indication if they ever will be. Plus it was only supposed to be an Amazon exclusive for 6 months. Well, 6 months have come and gone and nothing has changed.

The only thing maybe science fiction about Outlander was the time travel with the rocks. And even that that was totally unbelievable. Mostly it's a period romance.

Well, that is a bad suggestion IMNSHO. First of all, the book is a stand alone novel and there is no need to read the other books in the Sword of Truth world.

Second, why should someone pass up a good book because the publishers are lame and didn't make it available through other channels?

The reason not to purchase it is because exclusivity is not good for eBooks. And giving in to a publisher that won't publish the entire series is wrong regardless of what shops carry the eBook. IMHO, I think purchasing eBooks in a series when there are ebook missing is not a good idea.

Try Linnae Sinclair's books. They are romance with a strong science fiction component, or science fiction with a very strong romance component, with a strong female lead in each.

An Accidental Goddess, The Down Home Zombie Blues, Finders Keepers, Gabriel's Ghosts, Games of Command and Shades of Dark are all currently only $2.97 at Fictionwise if you are a club member, since they have a 50% micropay rebate until April 1.

Lois McMaster Bujold has already been mentioned. Her most recent books, The Sharing Knife, Beguilement, Legagcy, Passage and Horizon, are more fantasy/science fiction with a very strong romance component. All but the last are also a reasonable price.

Her Vorkosigan series is serious science fiction, with at least half of them with serious romance involved.

But with humour (or humor) too when appropriate. E.g. A Civil Campaign: a RomCom if ever there was one. But don't read it first - start at the beginning!

I would also advise you to stay away from Wizard's First Rule by Goodkind. There is a very stronmg opinion that it is the worst fantasy series ever.

As one who has read it, what is your opinion of it?
