E Ink Kaleido 2.5

Hey guys, I checked for the new Sony panel, the Kaleido 2.5, from the video I saw, it was a 10.3" screen with 4096 colors. Do you think the new Kobo could use that panel? I guess it would be really expensive though!

I hope the new Kobo is not color. That would mean no sale.

4096 colors is quite a feat though.

10" Kobo ereader would be an instant buy for me, even monochrome.

I do not imagine the next Kobo device will use a colour panel. Even if Kobo were to release a device using it in the future, I would speculate it would basically be its own product line, targeting content where colour makes sense: Comics, manga, magazines, etc. And probably be quite a bit more expensive, as well.

What would be more interesting to me than using colour panels, would be supporting a pen. Would make it more natural to highlight text, and actually write down notes, rather than awkwardly typing them in. There's a ton of e-ink device that support low latency (20ms - 40ms) writing and drawing by this point.

IMO color e-ink is still not good enough, just look at comparison pixtures between Pocketbook Inkpad 3 and Inkpad Color.

A Kobo 10.3" color? I would buy it immediately!

I don't think it because they have never produced a 10.3" device and the the first one should be a color device.

I imagine that sooner or later they will make a color device but may be later. And anyway about the new Kobo device We really don't know anything but speculations.

pwm is not visible. So that's a non-issue.

I don't care if it's visible or not, i know it's there and it bothers me, that is the reason i bought Libra instead of Forma.

How can something you cannot see bother you? If you knew nothing about pwm, you'd not be bothered because you cannot see it and you'd never know it was there.

That's like being bothered because broadcast HD is 1080i and even though you cannot see the flicker, you are bothered because it's 1080i and not 1080p.

It's a tiny expensive niche. Also makes the monochrome brightness poorer for same light. The colours are poor compared to 4096 on any other technology.

Any video or photograph of coloured eink tends to be unrealistic. This is the most honest I've seen and corresponds with by expectations from basic physics

Decent colour by a filter on mono eink is impossible. You need a different technology. Once we thought mirasol was the answer. Transreflective LCD is only a solution for LCD in bright sunlight. Not low power passive screen indoor reading.

The Sony electronic paper products are strange tiny barely alive niche for PDFs in offices. I suspect someone doesn't care how many they sell of the color version.
