Why jailbreak the Kindle?

Hello everyone,

I would like to know one thing, and sorry if my question sounds silly, but what benefit do we have when we jailbreak our Kindle, other than changing our screensaver or our own fonts?

I'm curious about your answers.

For the epub format, What i do is:

- Download the epub i want
- Convert from my phone with à convert app to MOBI
- Send the .MOBI file to the Kindle app
- Sync my Kindle to have the book.

No need to plug the Kindle each time

It's why i dont understand the benefit to jailbreak, but maybe im missing something.

Mostly to transfer files as they are without a pc. I got my kindle and phone all the time but not a pc. And maybe future projects like kindlelazy.

You can enjoy your kindle without jailbreaking, it's not for everyone. I did it mostly for the screensaver, and am now seeing what else is available.

I just tried out KOReader, it's fun. It's a lot more controlable than the default reader. Margin control, progress indicator control etc.

Jailbreaking is not for me, I did it to a Google Tablet and I had nothing but a headache the whole time and it ended up screwing my tablet over to the point it was useless
I just read my ebooks I get from Kindle Unlimited and return them. I pay a monthly fee, and I read all the books I want, it is cheaper than buying ebooks. And I do have a lot of classic books that I can side load to my kindle if I like.

While I patch my Kobo, I don't jailbreak my Kindles. Too much bother for too little reward, for me. I can use custom fonts anyway, because I sideload my books in the azw3 format, not mobi. Screensavers aren't important to me and I'm fine with default margins and tap zones.

As to epub support, don't need it. I sideload all my books from Calibre, because I adjust the formatting in the Calibre editor. I never download anything to my Kindles directly.

For me it's being able to install KOReader and have proper folder organisation, not the abomination that is the Kindle collections.

If the Kindle allowed nested collections that would be an improvement but, as things stand when my Oasis finally gives up the ghost completely, as the new Kindle models are so far non jail-breakable and that doesn't look like it will change, I will be replacing it with a Kobo.

I cannot jailbreak my PW3. But most of what I would want to do I can do with custom fonts and coding for the eBooks.

I use ChareInk to reduce the line-height in KF8. I use negative margins to reduce the overly large L/R margins. I use The Hyphenate This! plugin for Calibre to add soft-hyphens for hyphenation. The one thing I would like is kerning. But that only works with KFX and I really do not like KFX.

With Kobo (IMHO) you don't need DIRECTORY organization. Between collections and series and the various ways to sort eBooks, there is really no need for DIRECTORIES.

You can add fonts without jailbreaking.

To remove ads you call Amazon and pay $20 (If in the US). I don't know the cost to remove ads in other countries. But you have to be registered.
