Note Taking On Kobo Libra H2O?

Just wondering if there is any note taking functionality on board or available through a sideloaded app.

The functionality I'm envisioning involves highlighting a section of text via long press (just like you would on your phone) and via a popup menu, exporting it to a seperate .txt file for future reference (so you don't have to break your reading flow by constantly writing things down or have to go back later and flip through hundreds of pages to find that cool fact you vaguely remember).

Have you actually tried exactly what you described? For epub and kepubs, making an annotation works exactly like that. And a long-press and drag to highlight multiple words. For other formats, you can tap the top-right corner to make a bookmark and then add a note to that later.

You can view the annotations from the annotations list inside the book, or from the books menu in the book list.

There are various ways to get the annotations out depending on how you want to use them. There is an option you can add to the config file to have an export from the books menu.

Calibre is best for getting annotations out. If you use it you don't need the config menu option to export, otherwise it's handy.
The most I've done is about 980 in one book. I use the Kobo Utilities in Calibre (David's good work), or Annotations in Calibre for a Kindle. I copy/paste the Kobo Utilities "Get Annotation" into a text file where I reformat it for my needs.

The Kobo Annotation support is fine on the device.

You can also use a WP to make a document like a diary, use Calibre to make it into an epub and then add notes.

To enable exporting annotations to a text file, open this file on the Kobo device (which is located in KoboeReader/.kobo/Kobo):

Kobo eReader.conf

Find the heading:

[FeatureSettings]

And add or edit this line:

ExportHighlights=true

You'll then find an option to export annotations to a text file (which will be saved in the device's root directory) on the Annotations menu.

Thanks Robert, that's really helpful.

No I haven't tried it since I don't have a device to try it on, but that will be rectified soon. I'm glad the functionality exists though, thanks for letting me know.

I kind of dread how high my annotations per book count is going to be, haha.
