Now that we have screen grabs from Kobo and Amazon with current firmware, The Kobo still dithers better then the Kindle.

Are you commenting on the color-to-grayscale mapping or on the actual dithering between the two gray levels within each square? It looks like the kindle is just using a different algorithm (Floyd-Steinberg) than the Kobo (uniform)--see attached. I think whether one is better than the other is somewhat subjective.

The Kobo is better looking at the two images. The contrast is better on the Kobo image. The contrast on the Kindle image is rather poor. Also, I've seen manga on a Kindle and a Kobo and the Kobo had better contrast.

From looking at the last two sets of screen grabs, it appears that Kobo still dithers better then Amazon.

But looking as the recent Kindle and Kobo screen grabs, the Kobo one has better color dithering. So you get a truer (to the original) image.
