5.42

Do is have to disable SIP (not even sure what this is) and is this essential for 5.42 to work, also can i go from 4.23 straight to 5.42 or do i have to install the versions in between first. i have opened terminal and pasted this command (/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre) and i get no such file so again very confused as not sure what this means. It used to be so easy to just download the next version and carry on, this is all to way above my computer knowledge.

You don't need to install the intermediate versions. As for your result above, it would appear that you do not have calibre installed in the default location for a MacOS install. If you open Applications in the GUI, do you see the calibre.app file? Does it open calibre when you double click on it? The first time you run calibre, you are likely to have to go into System Preferences => Security and Privacy and allow calibre to run.
