Viewer - how long is a 'page'?

I'm reading a book using paged mode.

In one chapter, turning the page gets me 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 appearing in the 'position in chapter' in the footer.

Then the next chapter has it as 0.9, 1.8, 2.7 even though the font size is exactly the same.

What exactly is happening here?

The position has no connection to pages. If you want page numbers use the pages in chapter in your header/footer.

Pages in viewer looks a lot nicer.

Are there any plans to add a corresponding "pages in book"?

No because that would require rendering the entire book to get the number.

Yeah that might cause problems with the really long/image-heavy ones.
