Yeah I also remember this book with the 50's style of drawing and children with 50's style of dress. It was used mainly for our English class in order for us to read well. But a great help indeed that time!

Several of James Herriot's books. Also, Trumpet of the Swan, Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little,The Borrower's. I know I have others, but those are the ones that come to mind.

Oh where to start (We're packrats when it comes to books in our family)

One of the oldest books I have is a 1950's Edition of 20,000 League's under the sea by Jules Vern that belonged to my Grandfather. I used to love to curl up with it when we went to visit him, and he ended up just giving it to me one year. While it's yellowed and worn now, after so many years, just picking it brings back memories of Warm summer days, of curling up with a book on the verdana, with a jug full of icy cold squash. Good Memories

I've also got a good collection of Earl Stanley Gardner's work, ones which my mom grew up reading, and in turn so did we during our holidays.

Of books which we were give or bought when we were younger, We still have most of our Enid Bylton collection, wit most of the singles and smaller series, and large parts of the Famous Five, Secret Seven, etc as well.

We still also have our Nancy Drew's and Hardy Boys, which our younger cousins now enjoy when they come over. While formulaic, they were a lot of fun, especially when you read the crossover Supermystery's when they got together.

Also Have a ton of my old comics, including my Astrix's and Tintin's Which I still love rereading to this day. I especially love reading the Astrix's to get all the jokes many of which just went over my head when I was younger. I also have a good sized collection of The Phantom (Diamond Comics) which are colourised versions of the original weekly strips which are hard or impossible to find anymore. I still miss even the * For the Ghost who walks, which seemed to appear nearly every page. Also have over a thousand Archie's Single and Double Digest's which we used to (and still do sometimes, though a little guiltily) Buy and read by the dozen. Oh and my Richie Rich's (which were next to impossible to get in Africa or India)

The only surviving book is a very old copy of the King James version of the bible. Although I've read it many times, I did not read it until adulthood. The first book I remember reading and enjoying was the first vol. of the Box Car Twins. After that I was hooked. There's good handful of Astrid Lindgren books at my parents' that's "mine", but I think the oldest I have standing on my own bookshelf is the Narnia books. Timewise, I think they compete with a number of aquarium books I "liberated" from my father's bookshelf, and as far as emotional attachment goes the aquarium books win. From age 8-9 and onward, most of what I read came from the library, especially fiction.

I gave away most of my childhood books to my nieces.
The book I've had the longest is from around 1975. It's the big red one volume Lord of the Rings in a red slipcase. I paid $34 for it.

I still have "Prosciutto e Uova Verdi" -- that's "Green Eggs and Ham," the Italian version. One of the first books I ever read on my own, in any language.

Across the street lived Dawin, an only child, while I was one of six. He was best friends with my brother, Jim, and played every day with Matchbox cars and green toy soldiers. I would go with Jim to play but I was more interested in his huge collection of Dr Seuss books. My favorite was 'Go, Dog Go'. I still smile when I see it but I never got one for myself. I was always content to leave it over there. Nothing ever last in my house, we were barbarians. Dawin's books always looked new, year after year.

Now as I go older, 13, I came across 'Classical Myths That Live Today' by Sabin and brought it from my public library. I still have it today. Copyright 1927. Still has all of its pages. I would love to have it in ebook. So many b/w photos and drawings, it would look great on my Kindle.

I have my complete box set of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie books that I got when I was in grade school.

I have the same book, but mine was purchased in 1977. A great volume, isn't it.

Where the Sidewalk Ends (loved this book as a kid)
CS Lewis Narnia Series
Billy and Blaze series (I was really into horses)

I was looking at my moms book shelves and was surprised to see how many books she had saved from my childhood. I don't remember most of them, but she must have read them to me a lot because I became a avid reader.
