Failed installation
I was downloading the latest update and I think I tried to launch it before the download was complete. Now the process will not complete. I can neither install nor uninstall the program: all I get is an error message - "An installation for calibre is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?" - but clicking yes does nothing, I just get the error message over and over. Please help!

What OS?
If is Windows: Disable or remove POWER TOYS if installed |

The other culprit is 3rd party security (defender does not seem to bother Calibre ) suites. One assumes that you did have right to where you are installing and the user folder (used for confi folder)

I tried downloading using a different browser but stalled at the same place. The message here is:
"The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file." I hope that's meaningful to someone! I will try using the zip version and report back. |

Locked a portion.
That is YOUR system that has done that. You need to find out what is 'stuck' and unstick that. An A/V action? Another process is using that file (eg. you minimized the viewer instead of QUIT). How about a Sync app still running that include a system folder (calibre2 or a DLL) OR your Book Library? (IIRC Calibre 5 needs to restructure parts of metadata.db ) |
