I updated and synced my Glo HD, but so far I'm not seeing any update in the dictionaries I have installed. The monolingual Italian, English and Spanish dictionaries and the translation dictionaries (Spanish-English and English-Italian) are all Merriam-Webster with the exception of the Italian one which is still the Devoto-Oli from 2012 (not sure if that's going to be updated, though I wish it would).
I also have the monolingual Japanese dictionary installed but have no idea whether that's changed or not, it's not mentioned in the About page specifically.
I'm guessing I either have to sync after October 1st, or maybe I have to remove and redownload the dictionaries?

I synced my Clara last night to get a new library book and it installed the firmware update but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Does anyone know if the Oxford dictionary is English or American? I'm curious because my old Sony reader had both versions. I found the American version was best to use when reading books from the US or Canada. The English version worked better with books from England or Australia. The English dictionary was especially helpful to me when reading English or Australian books that had slang I wasn't familiar with.

American is English. So of corse the Oxford English Dictionary is English be it American or British.

Technically, that is true, but color != colour

Anyway, I noticed that dicthtml-en-ja-pgs actually got deleted in at least 4.23. And if people don't want to sync their e-readers to get the new dictionaries, you can use the Kobo Desktop app in Windows instead and copy them over yourself. The new language dictionaries were downloaded, and I assume the rest will be updated on Oct 1.

I just thought I'd mention that when I updated my main test Kobo (KA1) my custom dictionaries were not automatically moved to the new .kobo/custom-dict subdirectory during the fw update.

I moved them over myself afterwards but they did work equally well in either location.

So... how long should the update take? I synched and selected "Update now" on my Clara, and the screen hasn't changed for twenty minutes.

Still shows the "Update required" box. "Update now" selected (dark box). Back light off. Still no change; like 40 minutes now.

Did it lose the wifi connection? Should I restart it?

I like the new TOC layout, looks much better.

But what I really want is foldable TOC with collapsible headings, for those pdfs and epubs with really huge tocs that are so long I can't find top level sections without scrolling all over.

(Since you mentioned the frontlight, I assume it was on before. That would imply it started the reboot process but didn't actually make it. Which is... strange. Was the battery charged?)

Yes, the light was on. It always goes off to reboot.

Okay, all is well. I connected the Clara to the PC, that seemed to wake it up.

Firmware has been updated. English dictionary doesn't look any different; will sync again after 1 October.

The dictutil updates are almost ready. I've finished implementing and testing the code, so all I have left is the new documentation and implementing a fix for the bug I mentioned with the dictzip v3 prefix_exceptions trie.

I just discovered that you could also make a file with the format of dicthtml-xx-xx-yyyyy.zip where yyyyy is any string (so for example, dicthtml-en-en-wordnet.zip or dicthtml-en-en-gcide.zip, etc.) and they'll also show up in the menu (in this case, as English - English (Custom)), which is really cool. They'll all have the same name in the menu though and I don't know if there's a limit to the number you can have installed at the same time, but it would appear that you can now have multiple English (or any) language dictionaries without modifying locales, which is great if you don't want to have to merge multiple dictionaries together under the old way. But I only tested with English as the source language; haven't tried others yet.
