Paypal + Proxy?

I am sure this has been covered many times but I couldn't think of the right search phrases to use to narrow it down, sorry:

I'm thinking of getting a Libra when a retail with whom I have some store credit gets them back in stock. It seems like a great opportunity to avoid the geographical limitations of my current Kobo account by setting up a new one. From what I recall, these are the key steps to reducing that lock-in:

1. Throwaway/fake email address.
2. Paypal as payment method.
3. Access via proxy/VPN

Have I got that right? Can I implement those steps and have access to Kobo stores other than the one dictated by the credit card linked to my current account?

In my experience, the lock-in is related to your mailing address, not the credit card. For instance, I created a Japanese account last week with a Japanese mailing address, and I can purchase in the Japanese store using my American debit card.

That's interesting, because my current account is a hotmail.com account, so they must be locking me in by IP, not address

In general, Kobo is basing what shop you use on the address you give them. Change the address to another country, and that will be the store you are presented with and can buy books from. As far as I have seen, Japan is the only exception to this.

For the credit card, I don't know what happens there. When I buy a book, it says on the page that it is processed in Ireland. But, the line in the credit card bill has "Lux" on it. I'm sure there was something about it being billed from Luxembourg. Maybe that has changed recently. I haven't tried buying from other than the Australian Kobo store for a while, so I don't know what would happen if I try another country.

Thank you! This may be a worthwhile experiment when I get my Libra - give them my cousin's address in Bangalore or my friend's in San Marino and see what I can see.
