I have sensitive eyes though and I don't see well when it gets dark so that is probably why. But I could never read on any white text on black.

Or green on black as I remember some programs from back when. That stuff did a number on my brain.

Surely soon it gets to everyone, and those that actually like having that toggle there and using that mode often. It is still also in accessibility by the way to turn on and off.

I don’t like reading any Kindle in dark (without external lighting): it’s not comfortable at any light level, either it is too bright or not bright enough to afford sufficient contrast. Any backlit screen with Dark theme is far better for my eyes (and I Dark mode everything I can).

I do sometimes like Dark theme on Kindle with sufficient ambient light, so I’ll be happy when it shows up on my PW4’s.

I will use Bluetooth if and when they add TTS or immersion reading to Kindle. (VoiceView is too narrowly focused on accessibility and I don’t regard it as a substitute for less intrusive TTS)

From what I could gather, it is a server-side update and people running either 5.12.5 or 5.12.4 get it randomly. It is being rolled out quietly.

I’ve already dabbled with it before under the Accessibility menu and did not like it much, but it is a nice addition nevertheless. Could be even better if it came with a schedule option just like warm light on the Oasis.

So I hope you all get the toggle soon. It sure will be a lot easier to use then having to go into the settings to change it.

As far as the bluetooth, I would use audible here and there if it had a speaker on the device. But to have to use another external speaker for that is just not useful to me. I don't have bluetooth speakers laying around my homes like that. Yes, even TTS would work for me. But alas, not to be had. I have a Keyboard that has it and its missed. Not a fan of the "acting" of books. Just read the darn things.

But I can easily ignore features I don't use. But I love that they are there for those that want and/or need them. Because I want everyone to be able to read, no matter what it takes to do that.

I got the Dark Mode. It did not appear after in installed 5.12.5 for few weeks, but my Oasis 2 normally has been in airplane mode or online for short duration. Few days ago, i intentionally kept it online for 2 hours, followed by a reboot, it shows up. Not sure if rebooting is needed but I seems remember I checked it was not there (it was 4am during wakeup, fall back to sleep window) so a reboot.

Dark Mode (and Permanently Delete) showed up on my PW4 sometime in the last couple of hours. It might have had to do with a Restart that I did in an attempt to get a few books to download that were stuck QUEUEING, and to get indexing unstuck. It didn’t fix either of those issues but well, now I have the features.

[EDIT: my other PW4 just got the two features after a Restart, when plugged into power]

I just rebooted my Kindle Oasis 2 with 5.12.5 and Dark Mode is now there!

Wow, after all this time that really did work. Just rebooted and it showed up.

I just got to my Oasis 3 - reboot and it showed up as well.

It just arrived this afternoon on my PW(2018) in the Netherlands, this morning no joy, opened it this afternoon and without reboot or such, it was there, works smooth!

I am so jealous! The Dark Mode toggle is the one feature I've been longing for!

Question for you lucky ones who have it: at the time it showed up, were you connected to wifi? If not, had you been connected recently? I rarely connect and upgraded the firmware via USB. I did connect to wifi a few days ago and left it on for several hours, but I still haven't been blessed with it.

I connected to Wi-fi last night before rebooting, and it showed when I did that. For me it didn't show up when just connected to Wi-fi without rebooting.

I did the firmware update a while back via USB. I was on wifi when I did a restart on my devices and it showed up.

Oasis 2 - firmware 5.12.5. A few minutes ago the feature wasn't there. I rebooted the kindle and finally got the feature. I've rebooted the kindle a couple of times in the last couple weeks/days to check for it and obviously it wasn't there.
Now wondering whether I'll use it or not
