Ebook viewer Header cuts font's descenders
When using Calibre e-book viewer with epub books I see that the heading showing author and title uses a font that do not show properly the descenders of some letters (lowercase g, j, p, q and y) under the baseline of the font.
How can I fix this?
I am using Calibre 14.5 64 bit.

Your English is good enough for this


The current version is 4.15.0

Descenders can get cut off if Line-height does not leave enough space for the next line. 1.2 is standard.

The font could be defective in design by not indicating decender space

Typically in the CSS class assigned to either the header class or the following Paragraph class.

This assumes there WAS a line-height entry (overrides the defaults). Ususlly, there is no entry.

You do not have a large enough top margin. Go to viewer preferences--page layout, increase the size of your top margin until it is ok--I use 20.

Did you follow the suggestion to increase the size of your top margin until it is okay? If 20 did not work for you, try going to 50. If that keeps your descenders from being cut off, reduce the top margin until you see cutoff and then increase by, perhaps, 5. If 50 doesn't keep them from being cut off, you have a different issue.

Yes I tried until 50 and 100 but nothing changes.
I noted that reducing the font size from 12 px to 10 px in the "inspector" works but I don't know how to save the modification

I find 1.2em to be too big. My suggestion is to set the line hight to what you like. Start smaller then 1.2em.

that's odd.

The margin settings are stored in the viewer.py.json file, which is in the location that opens when you click the Preferences (library manager)->Miscellaneous->Open calibre configuration directory button, viz:

If you want to try changing it manually, then you should close calibre and the viewer before doing it, and then do whatever you've been doing to start the viewer.
