I haven't been able to configure anything because it crashes as soon as I try. Maybe this is related as I don't even have a search the internet.json - all my other plugins' jsons are there though. |

When file explorer opens click on the plugins directory. The file should be there. Close calibre then rename the file Search The Internet.json to Search The Internet.json.OLD then restart calibre and try customizing the plugin again. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 12-15-2019 at 11:48 PM. |

Assuming you actually went through calibre preferences to open the calibre configuration folder and it wasn't there you must be correct. In this case, close calibre, take the attached file and extract the Search The Internet.json file, place it in the plugins folder and see if it makes a difference.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is still actively maintained, so apologies for the thread necromancy.

The previous report got kind of lost in the performance debugging, but I wanted to note I'm also seeing that the identifiers template tag doesn't work. I was hoping to get this working for ereaderIQ, which uses the Amazon ID in the URL. I tried {identifiers:select(amazon)} with no luck. If you just pass {identifiers} it appears to contain only the ISBN. I can successfully use this in the Book Details customization to get a working link, so it appears specific to this plugin. Here's an example URL: https://www.ereaderiq.com/dp/B0047Y0EWY/ Opening the configuration is also very very slow for me, but that's honestly a secondary issue. |

So in an odd coincidence I'm trying to do the same sort of thing. I want my search to go to Amazon.com but to use the ASIN to go to the correct book page rather than go to the search page.

My search string is http://www.amazon.com/dp/{identifiers:select(amazon)} and all the Kindle books I've tried this with have a correct Amazon ID and no ISBN and they all go to the URL https://www.amazon.com/b?node=20547412011, which is just seems to be just a bunch of junk being sent instead of the ASIN. I also tried https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/{identifiers:select(goodreads)} which also doesn't work so it's definitely a Identifiers problem not just an issue with ASINs. Any help will be really appreciated, Thanks! |

Beta - Python 3 compatible and support templates

I have had a look at the plugin, and basically, it didn't have full support for templates. I'm not sure why that was, but, there is similar code in the Open With plugin, and it does support templates.

While doing this, I have also made the changes required for the future Python 3 version of calibre. The beta is compatible with both the released version of calibre and the Python 3 beta. I have not done much testing of either change. It appears to work, but, it isn't a plugin I use heavily, so it needs more testing from those who do. Please report any issues here and I will have a look at them. And please report if everything is OK, so that I know if it can be released. |

I am using this plugin with my Calibre 3.48, as i am still om Windows 7 (32 Bit) 7.

When trying to open the plugin configuration, Calibre hangs, than a cmd windows opens, closes and Calibre crashes. Thomas |

Thank you so much davidfor, I can't believe how fast you fixed this, you are amazing!

This version works perfectly for me, both my Amazon and GoodReads searches go straight to the book and that's going to save me so many clicks and so much time. Calibre 4.16 (64) and Windows 10 Thank you! |

Could you post the configuration file? This is "Search The Internet.json" in the plugins directory of the calibre configuration directory. There might be something in that. Especially if you have added a lot of searches. |

Search The Internet.json https://we.tl/t-aOBD0TfE0z Also done a clean install with your new version and the version before. Same result, both crash when trying to open the configuration. The configuration window frame appears and than..crash. I downgraded some weeks ago from calibre 4,x to the last 3.x Version because of driver issues. Maybe there an issue? The former configuration itself as you see in the json files works great. Thomas Last edited by Thomas_AR; 05-16-2020 at 01:50 PM. |

Wow, did not expect such a quick solution! Thanks so much, davidfor!! I just tested it out and the new version works like a dream. I think opening the configuration is actually a bit faster now too (though to be fair, that could also be because I deleted a bunch of the unchecked searches). This is awesome news for my grand scheme of centralizing all my ebook tracking into Calibre.

Just to let you know folks regarding my problem, that the Edit-GUI will not start and resulted into a crash of Calibre.

I cleaned up the "Search The Internet.json" from all "false" entries, which have been 3/4 of all, and wow..it is working again. Thomas Last edited by Thomas_AR; 05-27-2020 at 12:41 PM. |
