I would just like to point out that as of 2/4/09 there's a new press kit on the txtr website. It carries 2 additional pictures of txtr, though they seem more like CAD designs to me rather than real photographs. Nevertheless now you can at least see what it looks like from behind and appreciate its design from more angles.

The Kindle 2 has been getting most of the attention this week, but I've been looking at this device in more detail and wanted to highlight a few things that may have gone unnoticed by some if they didn't look at the total platform. It also addresses some of the gaps with the Kindle. 1. The ability to upload your documents to their website in order to access them from any location/supported device. 2. The ability to share documents across multiple people while still offering the ability to control access to private documents as well 3. Facilitate ratings, discussions and recommendations for work groups 4. Bluetooth which would enable accessing the backend remotely using a connection to your current cell phone without having to have a separate line for the txtr reader. The more I look at what this service and device have to offer the more excited I get about it. Hopefully it makes it to market and quickly! |

Adamastorx, between € 350 and € 400 is more realistic. And maybe still too optimistic. Unless this startup is not looking for any kind of profit in the short term...

$445-$508!?!?!?!?! For a Freescale cpu device??? Not when FoxIt is selling their Netronix-based device for $259. Not if they want to have the slightest hope of having a greater market share than ONE CUSTOMER. Derek | |

I think they'll have to look at the competition and ensure they are in line with that. I would expect it to come in around the same price as the kindle, however I suspect the wireless 3G service will be extra. It will be interesting to see if they try to market through some of the mobile operators with either an inclusive plan or a subsidized pricing model. |

I was kind of bored, so I decided to browse the CeBIT website (which will be next week). When I found this news item: http://www.cebit.de/58738 Looks like I'll be seeing the reader next week! (note: I must charge the batteries of my camera!) |

Huh. And here I was thinking that the Txtr would be in the booth next to the Pomegranate folks...

They just put up a new blog entry noted on the front page that they will demo at Cebit and the show the following week.

I stand corrected. I just saw the reference to it today. Anxious to see this thing in action. If the vimeo video floating around is a prototype of the txtr, it looks to be really fast and appears to have folder support as well.

Noonscoomo, if you are still here with us, can you tell us if the Txtr Reader will be available in black as well? I've seen the Cebit video and it's very cool, by far the best looking eReader, but the white border is not the best choice because it's too bright, compared to the greyness of the screen, especially if you read outside, on a sunny day. Black or dark grey would be a better choice, imo. |

I actually like it being white. I've had play with the Sony 700 and didn't like the black casing. Perhaps they could do them in several different colours (if its cost effective) so everyone is happy.
