				Firmware 4.17.13694

From geek1011's Kobo Firmware Downloads page, it seems there is a new release of the 4.17 firmware available for all devices except the Mini.

Reserved for when I'm ready to post a few things. --- Some random thoughts: - The file import logic has changed a bit ... and now it will scan all dirs under .kobo except a whitelist ... so no more .kobo/addons @NiLuJe ... but it doesn't scan the trash folders. My hack is still needed to stop it scanning other dotfiles reliably, though. Update: there's a new FeatureSettings::ExcludeSyncFolders, and it seems like it takes a set of regexps that match with /mnt/*/ trimmed off the start. That might do what we want. - This will make a mess of my usual format for the release notes of the patches (the work is now spread across 3 versions). - Hindenburg is gone (I don't know what it did in the first place...) - Kepub chapter counting stuff has been slightly changed - Annotations and gestures have some minor internal refactors - Kepub location tracking has changed slightly internally - There are some minor fixes all around (as said in the release notes) - Here is the result of testing the current patches with this version: Spoiler:
 - Kobo seems intent on officially implementing the functionality of many patches and mods recently ... at least 10 patches now have their features/fixes implemented, and now my mod has it's full feature set implemented too (they didn't just expand the dotfile blacklist; they added full regexp support and a config option) ... at least it's less work for me to do. Sorry about the low-levelness of these notes, but I don't have time right now for much detail. --- And, now, don't expect the patch release for either firmware until Sunday. I don't feel like redoing the patches the day after we finished updating them. At least the firmware will be similar. Last edited by geek1011; 09-19-2019 at 05:59 PM. |

I look forward to the patches. I just hope some of the ones that I use can be fixed to work with this firmware. Thanks for all your work geek1011. |

I suspect it’s just the patches that work as they are in the last 4.17 firmware and ones that need to be changed to work with the new firmware

The ones with the ticks looks like the ones which tend to work unchanged from firmware to firmware. Any of the patches which always need new absolute hex-location(s) (e.g. Freedom to advanced fonts control) in every firmware will currently have a cross in geek1011's list above. | |

The epub navigation issues have been resolved. I am... impressed at the speed of response to the various issues we brought up. Kobo most have some new hires |

Since my, err, experiments with file scanning and an unlucky typo left me with a mostly empty device, I'm running a full re-import, and the import process is logging some warnings for "no spine entry found for TOC entry <blah>" issues . Don't know if that's new, though, because the syslog has always been a great place to check if nickel itself hadn't already complained about something funky about a book during the import . |

As has been seen, Kobo has released firmware version 4.17.13694. This is to replace the version 4.17.13651. It will be rolled out to all devices except the Mini. The rollout will follow their usual strategy of starting small and getting more users along the way. This will start with the Libra H2O and the people who received 4.17.13651. The changes, from 4.17.13651, in this firmware are:
Calibre has support for 4.17.x firmware, but, it doesn't have the correct database version. This was change just after the last calibre release. I have updated the calibre code to the correct database version for the next release. I expect the next calibre release will be version 4.0. I do not know when this will be. There are beta versions of calibre that include the update if you want to try them. In the meantime, using the option in the driver to support newer firmware versions is perfectly safe. There are no changes that affect the function of the driver. For users of my Kobo Utilities plugin, there is a change that affects the fetching of book status from the device. The way that the reading location is stored has changed for epubs. This does not affect getting the percent read or the last read timestamp, only the reading location. I plan to fix this over the weekend. |

I just took the update. Got tired of waiting for the devices to auto-update. I do not see too much of a change/upgrade. I do love the ability to scroll threw a book and go back to my saved spot with ease.
