God Mode is not actually needed. I can do everything in Win 10 that I used to do other Windows version from 7 on.

It's not what's been omitted, it's learning how to do it the new way and God Mode doesn't help you learn. It keeps you rather in the dark and a bit lost. |

the proper way to do w10 associations is nowhere in this thread

navigate to the list of defaults in settings and edit that settings- apps- default apps - edit that method WILL work the open with - always use this app - is a legacy route, may disappear in future upgrades |

I I recall I used to use an app Default Programs editor for changing default file associations etc. But as I have been using linux mint at home mostly so haven't used it recently.

Every Windows computer you walk up to is a new adventure. Part of the Windows Experience is figuring out how to do some every day thing that you used to be able to do in the past. It's like an ever-changing maze to find your way to the correct setting dialog, and then figuring out how to work the totally new interface in that dialog. "God mode" can help you get around the Windows default ... "Devil mode".

So you get used to using God Mode. You then go to a computer that doesn't have God Mode and you go to do something you should know how to do, but because you used God Mode, you have no idea what you are doing. That makes you look foolish.

Don't use God Mode. Learn how to do it the OS way. |

The Win 10 way is the same as the Win 7 way. So no, it's not changed. The control panel still exists in Win 10.

So what's really changed from Win 7 to Win 10? |

I followed all the instructions above and still no go. I am using Windows 10 PRO version Number: 1903 Build number: 18362.329 Aug 1019. God Mode does not work and in JSWolf's instructions line 5 is missing in my settings.

BetterRed - I have been doing that. applications by file type - select .epub from the left column and it shows Edge as default and when I click on edge to change the setting, Calibre is not listed only edge and the MS store.

But this issue begs for the reason Calibre did not successfully register for the various file types it handles. |

I will try uninstalling Calibre and re-installing it (again). Will use REVO this time to uninstall it.
