Kindle for PC already doesn't work on Linux at all, so they had to find another way to save Kindle books. Frustrated, if I'm wrong, please do correct me.

Nice ereader but for my poor old eyes. Been trying to sell it since I got my 1st Clara.... No one local seems to want it I refuse to ship to some one I don't know. Check out your local FaceBook Sale sites. Maybe some one near you will have one for sale.

I decided the Aura 1 was a bit bigger than ideal - the 6.8 screen of the h20 feels about right to me. Currently awaiting arrival from Amazon (edition1) |

I've only owned two Kobos, the original 6" Aura and the Clara and both have been great. I sweated bullets waiting on the Clara because of the light bleed, but mine was perfect out of the box. My Aura was rock solid. I used it for four years without issue. I only replaced it because I got antsy for something new. The Clara is not quite as nicely designed as that 6" Aura (it was considered premium in its day), but it is a great little reader.

Also I don't trust ANYONE's Cloud. So I download to laptop and backup to a least two different things. What I said applies to Mac or Tablets or Fire too. "Download to PC and transfer via USB" doesn't mean Windows. In the next step after purchase and before actual download, Amazon ask which registered Kindle or App the book is for. You can go to your account and do this for previously bought books. Currently it delivers AZW files as the main point of the KFX is to reduce delivery costs of 2G/3G/4G mobile built into readers. Obviously it doesn't affect WiFi cost for Amazon (zero), but they treat WiFi delivery to a reader as if it's using their Mobile account. Whereas "Download to PC and transfer via USB" is treated like an ordinary download (even if your Mac, Windows, Linux, Tablet etc is using WiFi or your own Mobile account). Conversion of AZW to ePub (using kindle serial number) is easier than KFX. Also some Publishers / Authors on Amazon don't use DRM. It's optional. So then the AZW can be converted without mysterious extra plugins. Do respect Copyright. However DRM is evil and the few countries that forbid circumvention are breaking the intent of Copyright and cheating consumers.

Most countries have far better national buy & sell websites than toxic Facebook. Even eBay is better.

To say Kindle is not "any more "closed and limited" than Kobo" is just plain wrong. Kobo doesn't even need rooting, so you can install what you want on it. Whereas Amazon has spent huge sums of cash limiting root on Kindles, to the point where it looks like the battle is lost and Kindle users will be limited to the standard UI whether they like it or not. Bye Koreader for Kindles In short, Kindle, nice hardware, crappy company policy. Kobo, slightly crappy hardware, much better company policy. Choose your poison. I bought an Onyx, but there's always the danger you'll get a lemon and have to send it back to Asia (unless you're in Europe, where you can get decent support from the German re-seller.) The US is fining FB peanuts compared to fines that will come from the EU. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/0...de_commission/ There are plenty of communication channels about local sales etc. No need to promote Facebook. Also https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/0...j_probes_tech/

You can't organize collections without either doing it on the cloud or via jail-breaked systems, I keep books in collections on my Kindle, just by creating a new collection in settings, then adding the books to it. No cloud or jailbreaking. That's pretty much all the organising I require, otherwise I I just read books on it. It's a PITA doing this if there are already hundreds of books on board, you have to trawl through them and tick the ones you want added, but it only needs to be done once. Easy enough when adding new books, theyre at the top of the list. |

I can't imagine doing a couple thousand books manually on any reader, in fact there's no way in the world I would bother doing collections manually. I'd set Calibre to change the names to include the book series and number only.

I've been going buck wild adding public domain books to my e-reader and currently have just a few short of 6,000 books. All nicely set up in collections on the Kobo. Doing that on the Kindle was such a hassle that I didn't even try.
