Extracted factory firmware 5.11.0 from the 2019 Kindle basic and ;installHtml method no longer works (functions as a simple search now). I'll probably nab another PW4 at current sale pricing. Chances are current shipped PW4s would still have 5.10.1.3.

Sounds like more jb work in the future. One point to consider: The ability to "closed case" de-brick returns for the refurbisher market might make them leave something (to be discovered) to support that revenue flow. |

Many thanks to "ilovejedd" for the factory update to 5.10.1.3, which has finally given me shell access into my Kindle4 PaperWhite (S/N G000 PP07 **** ****) after I carelessly allowed it to update OTA to 5.10.1.3 at the end of December. what worked for me is the following : update_pw4_5.10.1.3_factory.bin, use "update your kindle" option kindle-jailbreak-1.15.N-r15581.tar.xz, follow instructions and use ";installHtml" in search bar. JailBreak-1.15.N-FW-5.x-hotfix, copy "...bin" and use "update your kindle" option kual-mrinstaller-1.7.N-r15920.tar.xz, just extract and copy "extensions" and "mrpackages" folders(with contents) to top level folder on kindle over usb. KUALBooklet-coplate-e9f54e6-20190412.zip, copy "....install.bin" file to "mrpackages" folder and type ";log mrpi" in search bar kindle-usbnet-0.22.N-r15920.tar.xz, Copy "Update_usbnet_0.22.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3_koa_k t3_koa2_pw4.bin" to "mrpackages" and install from KUAL menu. you should now have a menu in KUAL to control USBNetworking. after installation and initial activation of USBNetworking the Kindle may throw an error about being "unable to start sshd". A reboot of the kindle seems to fix this. I am using Putty on Windows 7 to connect to the kindle and the info. in the following post told me everything I needed to know, thanks to "Awak" for his post. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...stcount=55here All credits go to ilovejedd, Awak, NiLuJe, knc1 and all the other excellent contributors to this site. |

Hi, I was reading through the posts and seen people installing jb on 5.10.1.3 on G000 PP11 so I figured I would try and see if it works, but I am stumped on directions. I successfully used the update_pw4_5.10.1.3_factory.bin, then created the update.bin.tmp.partial folder. Now I used the main-htmlviewer.tar and that worked and made a "your jailbroken" book, but I never put in either of these files -------------------- K5 JailBreak (5.0.x - 5.4.4.2) | kindle-jailbreak-1.15.N-r15870.tar.xz | 2019-Apr-30 16:18:06 | 799.7K | ac0ae3d4be6e65a39e514c32e4177cf9 | K5 JB K5 Factory JailBreak (Factory FW) | kindle-jb-factory-1.2-r15011.tar.xz | 2019-Apr-30 16:19:06 | 2.9K | e32c7fa8929906555bc842f4bd70a52b | Factory JB -------------------- Not even sure which I am suppose to use, or if I don't have to? I was thinking that the htmlviewer is what is needed to run one of these files maybe? Anyways, if I need one of these files which one would it be? my device shipped with 5.10.1.3 from amazon store. |

Install 5.10.1.3 or later customer firmware for the PW4 on your kindle, then follow step 8 in the first post in the thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=313086

Sorry for double posting, I can't find the edit button. So Customer firmware is just the same file I had used before the jailbreak? "update_pw4_5.10.1.3_factory.bin"the one ilovejedd is hosting?

No, that is the factory firmware. You need to download customer firmware from amazon. Examples for the PW3 are in step 7 in the thread I pointed you to. I'm not up to searching around for instructions. All the prior versions are there, but you need to edit the version number to match what you are looking for because amazon only shows the most recent version. If you look through the various jailbreak threads you should be able to find instructions for getting firmware updates from amazon

https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow...2_5.10.1.3.bin (customer fw is ~200-300MB, factory is much bigger at ~700-800MB) Sticking to this version means you can always redo the factory fw jailbreak in case something happens.
