By the way, if anyone remembers Magazine of Horror from the the '60s, as I do, you may be interested in knowing that archive.org has quite a number of them - FREE, if it's not restricted in your country. Check your local copyright first.

This is the magazine that really introduced me to Robert E. Howard, Seabury Quinn, Clark Ashton Smith, H.P. Lovecraft, et al. The great thing about these magazines is that they fit PERFECTLY on a Kobo Aura One (or similarly sized screen), due to the digest-sized nature of the magazine. Download the CBR version (over the PDF) for an enjoyable and superior reading experience. https://archive.org/search.php?query...%20of%20horror |

Alan Dean Foster's science fiction/horror Into The Out Of is on sale for $1.20 at Amazon. Not a great book, but I enjoyed it when I read it years ago.

This combines a retelling of retelling of the narrative poem Goblin Market with a story about two young Jewish-Ukrainian sisters who can turn into animals. Here's a favorable review by Bogi Takács. Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames is $2.99 on Amazon.com This is a somewhat humorous fantasy set in a society where bands of mercenaries are as popular a modern-day rock bands. There's a sequel, but I think this one's standalone. A favorable SFF180 video review convinced me to try it. Last edited by salty-horse; 03-23-2019 at 05:18 AM. |

Fully agree with you there. I've enjoyed some series but the books, especially the first one, have to stand alone.

I like that phrase, 'hanging out with the characters'. It encapsulates my reasons for wanting one author to write more books in a series I really liked the world building in. She's commented on her blog about a possible second trilogy or side books. Fingers crossed!
