				In Praise of Oasis 2

I complain about the battery life on my Oasis 2, but as I've looked at buying a new ereader I've come to realize just how great this device is.

It has a fairly large screen which is beautiful. The lighting system, although it does not include comfort light, is nearly perfect. The inverting of text to white on black is so nice when reading at night so that the screen doesn't become an interrogation light as my wife sleeps. It's light weight. It's waterproof, I read in the tub sometimes, I read in the pool in the summer, when I'm out and it starts to rain, I don't have to worry. I can sync books to my iPhone so that when I get stuck in a line at the DMV or while waiting for my son's soccer to end and realize I don't have my Kindle, I can still read for a bit on my phone. Also I can get reference material (highlights, notes, etc) on my Mac with the other app. It has buttons for turning pages and the touch screen can be disabled. I use this when reading fiction in bed, being able to touch the screen while laying on my side or back makes it feel more like an actual book. I've loved other aspect of other devices. My Kobo Aura one was great for large screen and amber light, android devices offer many options, but I gotta say as much as I've been frustrated at Oasis 2 for not having comfort light and a better battery life, in my opinion and experience, it is still the best e-reader on the market for simply enjoying reading a book. |

Thanks for the update! I've got an Oasis 1 but it's nice to know the 2 is also good, in case mine ever dies.

Out of interest, when you were looking at others, what did you think of the Kobo Forma? A bigger screen, waterproof, with buttons, and adjustable comfort light.

I like the size of the forma and the comfort lighting, but it feels cheaper than Oasis 2, oddly I’ve so grown to love the inverted text (at night only) that I prefer the Oasis. Especially since amazon has the cloud sync for books already owned or that I’ll purxhase somewhere else

I know the Forma's capable of inverted text, many here use that feature, but it's the last comment that interests me. I owned several Kindles over several years, and not one of them ever synched my "personal documents", its euphemism for books I didn't buy from Amazon. How do you manage this? |

And I have to agree about the fact that Kobo Forma or Kobo Aura H2O feel really cheap compared to the Kindle Oasis/Voyage. |

FutureGrace may be referring just to Amazon's cloud being able to HOLD his personal documents? I agree that they don't actually "sync" between kindle and iphone (for instance). Unless FG tells us he manages to do that, too.

(My post crossed FG's reply) |

Interesting, the mobi thing never worked for me. As for the other, I guess that's a matter of taste. The "metal=premium", "plastic=cheap" mantra is common in mobile devices, but I've never been a believer.

I'm curious, what do you mean by "don't actually sync"? I've used email to Kindle (I think it was MOBI old) on a couple of occasions and both last read position and annotations synced just fine between my PW3 and Kindle for iOS (iPad).

Also, I don’t like the block representing the 2 buttons on the Forma. To me the quality / finish is more comparable to what I get with my Paperwhite. And yes it’s definitely a matter of taste. |

You can also use a Mac/pc app called send to kindle and it’ll send mobi files to amazon cloud, making it available on phone, iPad, Oasis, etc. syncs location, notes and highlights of the book.

The Forma is a nice device, but it feels cheap TO ME, others may prefer the plastic (upside to that is plastic doesn’t get cold in winter) |

Forma has better battery life, but by very little if you have the wifi turned off.

For me the device isn't the issue. Can I get the books I want to read conveniently and at a decent price.
