Valdemort has been orchestrating a trade war with Canada for the last year, resulting in retaliatory tariffs from Canada on all sorts of things, including US coffee. Now Peet's or even Starbucks would have been the last choice for Canada to throw tariffs on, given that both have headquarters in Democratic states, but apparently some major coffee exporters from the US are in red states. Thus, huge tariffs on US coffee.

The finish is peat, with perhaps some chocolate hints ...

Hmmm. I didn't pick up on peatier, but definitely smoother. And I thought a bit less nose, surprisingly. The saltier, and the complexity, definitely.
