Internet URLs are obvious, as are simple file paths, but I suspect that you are thinking of other targets, such as Evernote or OneNote or others. Could you provide an example link for any "special" type of target you envision that would not be handled like a simple file path, if any?

Any valid URI will work in the calibre base, providing of course there a handler for the protocol e.g.

Ideally the same should be true here - afaik Kovid didn't do anything specific for things like evernote, onenote, ftp - I suspect gopher would work if I had one

Thanks muchly - works nicely

can you think of any way to add a Link field to other entity items, such Publisher and Series.

My thoughts are: add an additional table: _entityLinks (entityName, entity_id, link) and a Manage Entities plugin that would replicate the Manage Category feature with the addition of a Link field.

For custom columns that are entities - e.g. Translators, Location etc, the table would probably need to carry the custom column id.
