Dictonaries on Kindle - Page 2

Thanks to all y'all. I got the MWCD and it works perfectly. Especially to you, Daffy for having the huevos to try it out. I've been using the MWCD for years and the Oxford just grates on my nerves and isn't anywhere near as comprehensive as the MWCD.

I did know about the change primary dictionary feature, I was just uncertain as to whether or not it would work as the primary dictionary.

This forum is a wonderful resource.

The only prob with the MWCD is in the brief definitions at bottom of screen, it lists conjugations and what have you instead of a basic definition. You have to go to the full definition to actually see even a basic definition. And its still missing alot of words

If you don't like it, contact Amazon asap. They will give you your money back and you can search for a dictionary more to your liking. If nothing is available yet, you may have to wait a bit.

Edit: You may want to try the New American Oxford Dictionary at $34.02. It looks HUGE!

This is the built in dictionary. I don't know why they are also selling it for the Kindle.

You're right! I wonder if its and abbreviated version in the Kindle. Looks like I'll have send a little note to Amazon and ask about it.

I purchased the MW Collegiate and I'm not very happy with it (this is on Kindle 2) If I look at a definition, a lot of the words are doubled (perhaps they're meant to be bold?) For example, if I look at "fool" I get

Mine did that too. That really didnt bug me, it was the lack of definitions, and also having to go to the dictionary page most of the time to see the actual definition. I returned mine.

I just did a search on my K1 for the word "dupe". I clicked on dictionary in the results and didn't see anything duplicated.

I don't have my K2 yet, so I can't check it.

Maybe it's K2 thing? I didn't install it on my hubby's "new-to-him" K1. I've asked for a refund so we'll see.

I don't know how to do screenshots on the K2, yet, so I can't show you. I'm glad Dragoro wasn't bothered by the extraextra wordswords, but it would havehave driven meme crazycrazy

(and yes, it was almost that bad).

ETA - okay, screenshots are the same, just stored in a different place.

Anyhow, this is what I'm seeing

I wrote Amazon CS and asked if the "New American Oxford Dictionary" they are selling in the Kindle store is the same as the one installed in the Kindle or an abridged version.

I contacted them again and told them that they did not answer my question. I also asked why it was being sold in the Kindle store if it is the same dictionary.

Can you get clarification on the above. I'm pretty sure you can go into the kindle and specify what dictionary you want the kindle to use for the lookup feature. are they saying the others they sell won't work for this feature?
