That does not sound like much of a cynic to me.

The latest KOA is a "9th generation" device by Amazon USA counting (might vary from one sales region to another - 'generation' is a marketing term).

jailbreak yesterday and today KUAL washed out after update from 5.8.0 to 5.9.5.1

JB survived and so are other plugins like mrpi etc.

5.9.x doesnt allow to downgrade.

I will have to search forum how to get past if already JB

screensavers, ssh over wifi KOreader etc are working.

Sorry I meant latest firmware for KOA 8th gen, not KOA2 (or whatever you call the 9th gen larger Oasis device you are most likely referring to). I haven't had some of the liquid sanity (coffee) when I wrote the message... Which in the hindsight was a bad time to even attempt to mess with my Kindle xD

Additionally want to add that at least usbnet, kual (with the fix in this thread), mrpi and LibrarianSync are all working just fine for me (which means Python seems to work well too).

thanks for reminding, but I dont use the feature of Voiceview.
But since you mentioned it I tried to update voiceview

Amazon suggested a update with https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow...kindle_8th.bin so I downloaded on usbms and restarted. it was updated successfully I guess. with all that progress bar after couple of restarts and ok boot.

Try the same (update by restart) with our factory firmware image then.
They are both the same bundle signature, if you can install one, you can install the other.

If the VV files actually installed, your available free storage would have taken a very big hit.
Large enough that you would notice the new, huge, files.

More than likely, VV did not install.

A KT3 runs Amazon/Linux, not Google/Linux (a.k.a: Android).

What do you mean: "dd rootfs and main kernel" ?
I.E: To the kindle storage or From the kindle storage?

If "from" - there is no need, you can download the complete file system image and kernel for the "main" system from Amazon (for any version of customer firmware ever released by Amazon - they are all still on the Amazon servers).

If "to" - What are you trying to accomplish?
There must be a lot to the story which you are not mentioning here.

The Amazon installer does not keep an update log.
Our (that is: Mobileread Package Installer, MrPI) does.
