Hi,
Noob question on exporting EPUB ebooks in Calibre. I created an EPUB ebook in Calibre (by converting a Word doc and fuzting with the output of the conversion tool). Calibre stores the ebook in a file folder (Windows), but I want to be able to distribute it myself. It seems to me that there should be a simple way to export it as an OCF file, so that it can be sent around (e.g. by email) and opened in whatever reader someone else uses. But I can't find how to do this, except maybe to create a ZIP archive and just rename the filename extension. How do you do this? Thanks for any help! |

What is a OCF file? Most common are Epub, AZW3, PDF
Save to Disk will export a current version (updates metadata) to a path. Right-click on the STD icon, and you get to specify a specific format. |

Sorry but that doesn't work. Save to Disk simply saves the files in a folder. It doesn't create a container file.

If you want to sharea book file with other people you simply need to email the book file itself, i.e. just the EPUB file. There is no need for container files or zip archives.

@billrosenblatt, you usually include cover and basic basic dc metadata in your ebook. There should be no need to distribute a cover separately.

From this I get the impression that EPUB is OCF compliant.
OCF is the product of the Open Container Initiative (OCI), interestingly 3 of the big 'A's are not listed as OCI members - Adobe, Alphabet and Apple. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-20-2018 at 06:53 AM. |
