This does not belong in Kindle Fire forum (maybe Apple forum?), though it is true that features that show up for Kindle for iOS often make their way to the Fire’s Kindle app after a few weeks or months. Goodreads has been there in some form for some time now, and the press release isn’t really going to make much sense until the update drops and we can see what they are talking about (the latest update was just a couple of days ago). I’m more interested in meat-and-potatoes features like Split Screen support (on iPad), Word Runner, independent text layout settings for portrait|landscape|landscape 2 column (on iPad), orphan control. Speak Screen should highlight sentences/words as iBooks and other apps do. But am open to improvements in getting around the app: it takes 3 taps to get back to Library, compared to 2 for Fire, Kindle, Android, 2 to get to TOC vs 1 swipe for Fire/Android. And if there are more font adjustments (adjust bold etc) that will be nice. Last edited by tomsem; 10-24-2017 at 11:46 AM. |

http://www.thekindlechronicles.com/2...d-kindle-apps/ More info. Apparently Android too. Still waiting for it to show up in App Store, and also Google Play. (I do wonder if it would be better to have a ‘Kindle apps’ sub-forum here rather than discuss in respective ‘Apple devices’ ‘Android Devices’ ‘Windows devices’ etc forum as seems to be the convention. One-stop shopping instead of having to discover threads buried in multiple forums.) Last edited by tomsem; 10-24-2017 at 12:01 PM. |

Looking at the "all new" iOS app, it seems to be anything but all new. There is a new icon and splash screen. There are light and dark color themes. And the book you last read shows as an icon at the bottom center of the screen so that you can get back to it easily. Nothing that improves the actual reading experience. An "all new" Kindle for PC also dropped today with similar minimal changes. I suppose this is all about hyping the tenth anniversary of the Kindle. |

Okay mod hat off. I'm really excited for this. I'm hoping redesign means it handles large libraries better. My current Kindle app takes 2.22GB of space on my tablet. It's ridiculous.

Just updated the iOS app. Was meh before, is still meh. I don't know that the actual reading experience of the app (you know, the part that's most important) has changed at all, but maybe there are some small changes I'm not noticing since I only use the Kindle app in a pinch. Much prefer using MapleRead (or Marvin or another 3rd party app that gives more control over the reading environment).

I'm a tad confused...I updated the Kindle app on my ipad mini, and according to the app store info, it is 6.0 but in the actual app, it is 5.15.2 I see no changes either. |

One new feature I noticed in the new iOS app is the presence of Arabic language fonts. This seems odd since I don’t see any books in that language for sale at Amazon. (You need to open a side loaded book in that language to see the new font choices.) Last edited by jhowell; 10-24-2017 at 03:54 PM. |

I had to delete the app from my iPad Mini, then redownload it, to get the updated app. My iPhone didn't seem to update correctly either. I see nothing that is a real improvement to reading. I would love the light green background that the Kindle app offers on some android devices. I'd like a scroll ability also, it is the one thing I prefer about iBooks. Especially for study type books like a Bible. |

Kindle for Android 8.0 just showed up on my Nexus tablet. Looks a lot like the new iOS app.
