I thought my PRS 505 had an internal fault but when I connected it to the computer, it started and indicated a fully charged battery. I could not turn it off, however. It turns out the slide switch had popped out of position. After some fiddling, I was able to get it working again but I wonder how long before it fails altogether. Has anyone else had this problem?

I think someone mentioned it once on here, but was able to pop it back in. Maybe your unit is slightly defective?

Anyway, the slider just puts the unit on standby (which is fine). You can power down your reader from the menu. |

Mine seems to be back in place and working fine. Thanks for the reassurance. I was afraid there was a design flaw in an otherwise rugged device. I have lots of time left on the warranty so I can wait and see how it holds up. |

Hmm, something snapped in my power switch today. Won't turn off/on now. I'll fiddle with it later but I might be reporting on my Sony service experience soon!

You can power it down from the menu, FYI. I'd get it fixed though. Just make sure you back up whatever is on your Reader.

Yeah, I turned sleep OFF now because the only way to power it back on was to connect it to USB and then disconnect it. I talked to Sony and they want me to send it to their Laredo repair center for an estimate. I plan to express ship it today.

Odd operation. They don't issue an authorization or other tracking before you send it in. You just include a letter with your device. That sounds like a recipe for lost devices! |

I'm sure this question is an old one, but I am trying to find an answer so I am butting in here for help, please. This is what is happening. I have had my Sony PRS505 for a few weeks and am listening to a book, and can't turn the audio off If I turn the reader off, it's fine but as soon as I turn the reader on again and plug in my ear bud, I realize that the audio is still on. I've pressed every button to try and turn it off, and sometimes I'm successful with the big round button (the 'enter' button) and other times that doesn't work. Help me please. I'm sure it's something very basic and I'll probably want to kick myself when I get the answer.

You need to go to the audio player and pause the playback.

My baby came back from Sony last night. All is well. They slapped some very sticky labels on the unit and cover (sent to protect it). Since an audio sample was left on 'play,' and I never use the audio function. they must have done a diagnostic check. They didn't clear my loaded book memory.
