Agreed. I track locations (and would track ADE pages the same way if I ever bothered with ePub) but only use them when I can't find a paper copy page count for a book. Even then I only use them to calculate a realistic page count for whatever I am reading.

Those are some of the problems.
I agree about the cover and it is annoying.... I know people who don't bother to update the covers.....

Count words instead that's what I use in calibre. Word counts with page count plugin in calibre gives me a better idea about the comparative sizes of ebooks than the different page numbers given by publishers. irc fictionwise used to sell with word counts only rather than page counts.

If you want word counts bookshout.com is a good source. Smashwords also lists word counts.

Most eBooks these days are Kindle or ePub. Given that Kindle eBooks get their own entry, that leaves ePub. So yes, ADE page numbers are correct especially if the eBook has DRM.

I don't understand. What they don't allow is the SAME ISBN for two editions, not differents ISBN for a title.

You're showing you're not a software developer. There's a very technical reason (which doesn't mean that is a good design). ISBN is a primary key in the table, so it cannot be duplicated.

Some Stupid Romance, published by Mills & Boone will have one ISBN.
Some Stupid Romance, published by Harlequin, will have a different ISBN.

Back when I thought GoodReads might be useful to me, If the ISBN for Some Stupid Romance was from Harlequin, they wouldn't let one add the ISBN from Mills & Boone. Likewise, if I had Some Stupid Romance, Second Edition, one couldn't add the ISBN for that edition.
