Peter, have you checked to see what affiliate your device uses? I believe it's listed in .Kobo/Kobo/affiliate.conf

Additionally have you installed any modifications that prevent the check for upgrades?

Peter, no, I have no idea what affiliate was included with the KA1 purchased from Kobo.

And, no, I always try to use systems and devices very clean; thus, no modifications have been installed.

As mentioned before, my inquiry here was just one of surprise and curiosity. While a newer improved version would be nice, I'm okay with my KA1 as it is now.

I would think that if you want to discuss why no upgrade on your device, it would be well worth your time to confirm what affiliate your device is associated with.

My curiosity was more oriented toward Kobo's general strategy of leaving some users without updates. If I were interested in just my own KA1, then perhaps you would be right.

I doubt that Kobo expects users to somehow canvass/modify affiliates for improved versions (which thought harks back to my question of "why" is Kobo leaving some users behind).

Interesting to know. However, although I assume my affiliate is Indigo having purchased my KA1 through them, I'm currently running 4.2.8110.

I've always figured that there's little reason to fix what ain't broke. Besides which, it would be a bit of a nuisance to have to reinstall Koreader and my Chinese-English dictionary.

If there is really something which is annoying me or which is brokem, I figure I can always Google it and look for a solution, then sideload an update if needs be.

This is more than hard to believe given the time and effort you put into opening thread after thread after thread asking the same line of questions over and over and over again.

Updating a device via your desktop takes less than three minutes. Just get done with it already.

Interesting, I enabled wifi to see about another sync and once again there was not a more recent version. (I have a dummy account so that books are never synced.)

So, I disabled sync and merrily read my fully charged KA1 for a while.

The next morning the battery was totally drained.

I recharged it and have had no further drainage problems (that I know about).

I think I will have to borrow that idea. I hate having my books sync when I am just getting the update. i like to control which books are on my device rather than have all my books automatically download or sync if they already happen to be on my device.

Q, just set up your KA1 with an email address other than what you use for books.

Like you, it is important to me to only load selected books according to MY parameters.

It works wonders. I set up two accounts for some other reason, I think one firmware wasn't letting you hide purchased but not downloaded books or something like that. I do get their emails twice but if I really become bothered by that I can just unsubscribe from one or both

There is an option on the "My Account" page on the Kobo store for email updates. Doesn't that work?

Just did this and got firmware 4.3.8966... the dreaded new homescreen. Ugh. Glad I decided to try it out first on my original Aura instead of my KA1.

I have since had to learn how to patch in order to recover the old homescreen (after first registering a complaint about the new homescreen with Kobo).

Thankfully, the old homescreen is now back, but I will now have to reinstall Koreader, various dictionaries, fonts etc...

Good learning experience, but not one that I intend to repeat with my KA1 until offered some serious reason to update.
