I downloaded both the kindle and EPUB files. EPUB was 1.87MB. For kindle was a 5.09MB mobi.mobi.az1 file. My first experience (unpleasant) with this file type. Didn't notice what is was until it was until I used "send to my kindle" for my iPad only to have it rejected by Amazon.

Yeah, that's a little disappointing for me. I got Old Man's War for free ages back. Think it was a bookbub promotion or something.

Tor.com gave it away too, back years ago when they did a bunch of free eBooks when the website first started. Nice for folks that didn't get it then though. It's great that they're willing to give out books like this.

Yup, I got it back in 2008 in Tor.com's big initial promo. (That's how I discovered Scalzi and some other authors I now read regularly.) But I grabbed it again since there might be some corrections and I may read it again some time.

The July free ebook is now available. It's Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart.

I liked the entire series. I can understand how someone wouldn't like it and there is a lot of building at the beginning so I guess I can see how you say nothing happened although not necessarily agree.

I've been curious about the series for quite a while, so this is a welcome addition to my library.

I found it slow and dull and no likable characters. I've read plenty of fantasy where there wasn't much action, but the characters were good. Here, the characters had nothing going for them.
