All; I have a Onyx Boox Max 13.3" and installed ezPDF, WRITE and Google keyboard onto it using Google Play BIG mistake. I then tried to upgrade the firmware to 1.8.1 and although the upgrade ended successfully, everything else went wrong. Apps didn't work properly, Google Play kept on throwing up a 'Not Available' dialog box, WiFI totally failed (it was working well before) and on and on ... I managed to reset the Max 13.3", got the Andriod recovery screen, choose 'WIPE OUT DATA' and subsequently the Max 13.3" underwent a proper reset and reverted to the new 1.8.1 firmware while totally wiping out all my custom apps. Everything then went smoothly. WiFi work properly again, no more irritating dialog boxes from Google Play ..... the new firmware worked properly (and very well indeed). So lesson learned. No third party software henceforth I do like the new 1.8.1 firmware. It's heads and shoulder above the previous version. I would very much like a native multi-tab reader (like Sony DPT-S1) though. Warmest Regards Steven Sim |

actually this multi-tab reader feature in Neo 2 will be available in 1.8.2 very soon on all Onyx devices (not on future Max 2 only). I am already testing it and it works quite well. | |

Thank you Booxter for your responsiveness. After a few days with the MAX, I can say I'm very satisfied. It works wonders with my large pdfs. Writing is more responsive than I thought (I can pretty much write as with the ordinary speed and carelessness I ordinarily do). The refresh and page turn speed is satisfactory, and the white background is noticeably whiter than my little 8th Gen. kindle. Even internet browsing, especially to read articles, works fairly well. There are some rather hysterical flaws in the device, like placing the power button on the bottom, where it will inevitably get pressed from time to time. Is it our mammalian bias which moved the designers to place its bowels on the bottom? Could be, or they wanted to be different from its predecessors? If so, I implore the good people of Onyx to ignore the crowd and do what is best for the reader (mua). My solution is to flip the screen upside down, which works, even though you then have to cup the pen holder (Doh!). More design suggestions for MAX 2: page turn buttons on the side, not bottom, and rough cloth material on the side to improve handle. Also someone mentioned that pressing the stylus button will automatically turn the writing function on. For me the button doesn't seem to do anything. Is my stylus jacked or am I missing another step? |

+1 for not having the power button on the bottom (I'm pretty sure every single user agrees with this), while all the other buttons are fine where they are IMHO, I guess it's just a matter of preference. Pressing the pen button while starting to write something should automatically enable the writing function. Pressing the button first (and then releasing it) and then starting to write does not do anything. |

It's a strange place to put it. Most readers and tablets have the power button at the top. I guess it depends, though, on the internal layout of the motherboard.

Yes, but you have no idea how many times, keeping the reader at an angle on the desk, or vertical in my hands, I put it in standby mode or the window to shut down the device showed up. It's truly annoying.
