Anyone Know When Amazon Will Release Next HDX?

My 3rd generation 10" HDX is dying. I see Amazon is out of the 8" HDX with wi-fi only. I am not thrilled with my cheaper Fire tablet, and wonder if anyone has any info on future Amazon tablets?

I have also wondered if Amazon is going back to a premium device like the Hdx. I have both 7 & 8.9 versions. I just ordered another case for my Hdx 7 because I thought they would be hard to find. I did find them on Amazon, but did not find a fintie case for it on e bay. The 7 is older but still going strong and my old case is showing wear. I'm glad they are both working but would be hard pressed to find a replacement. I would like to see them make another premium device again too.

Personally, I could just as easily see Amazon getting out of the big tablet/premium tablet Android business. The $200+ space is becoming Win10 territory and getting enough volume for a viable Fire Tablet in that space is dubious in the face of comparable hardware running full Win10 on tablets, laptops, and convertibles at the same prices.

Amazon's best tablet results seem to be in the lower ranges.

I'd take that speculation with a mine of salt.

I don't really expect Amazon to come out with another premium tablet after the last refresh when they released 8 and 10-inch tablets with lower resolution screens than the previous generation's 7-inch model. Barnes and Noble did the same thing, with 1280 by 800 screens on the new 10-inch Samsung Models where the HD+ had 1920 by 1200 on 8.9 inches.

I think the price wars drove out the resolution wars and high resolution won't be coming back to large screen tablets anytime soon.

Obviously there are still high resolution tablets, but Amazon has no reason to try to compete with them. It took a very long time for the HDX line to sell out, and while they have had some success with low end tablets. Even there, they have only refreshed HD 8, and that was almost a year ago.

They also refreshed the HD 10 a bit a little over a year ago (aluminum back instead of plastic, available with more storage than the original plastic back...).
