The problem comes when you use a feature of KF8 that cannot be used in Mobi. What do you do then? @media won't help in that case when there's no way to fall back.

I want everything could be useful to share informations, novels, culture. Actually I hate EPUB3 because it is too restrictive, not the opposite. There are 'app' that are more interesting, coherent and complete than most "ebook" ported from inDesign around. Oblivious: IMHO.

My point still stands. Read it carefully. You're confusing possibilities with actualities. KF8 ACTUALLY supports more EPUB3 features (in mainstream readers/apps) than mainstream EPUB readers/apps currently do. I'm not talking about what the EPUB3 spec CAN do (of course it has advantages over KF8). I'm talking about support for advanced EPUB3 features in mainstream reading devices/apps. I'm afraid of "inDesign --> paper/book --> ePub2 --> mobi" workflow, because it is a MP3 model. It works only from a distribution, share access point of view, but do not touch the heart of the digital reading. f.

This discussion reminds me of the Kindle in Motion e-books that Amazon has put out. These are regular books, but with animated graphics throughout. To me they are are a failure in that they look nice to flip though, but are very hard to actually read because all of the animation going on is distracting. When I read a book I want something book-like, not app-like. ETA: Personally, I hope that the W3C/IETF focuses on improving e-book layout, especially in adapting the same content for readability on a variety of screen sizes and technologies. One problem I find is annoying is that there are so many eBooks out there with many different formatting with most being not optimal for reading as is.

But Jon, everyone has their own opinion as to what an optimal view is.
