A small comment on the poll: We may get a better view of what the wider audience thinks of the Kindle's looks if this were on a general forum. This is mostly polling people who already own a K1. I see a few non-Kindle owner's here but they're Mobileread regulars. I'd like to hear from our newbies, too.

A skin is not the same as what colorwarepc.com does. They actually paint the case. You can buy devices prepainted or send if your device to them to paint. (It's not cheap though. It cost $500 to have your MacBook painted.) BOb |

Yep. I know. The skin is just an inexpensive and flexible way to change the looks. Most folks won't pay $500 to paint a $359 device. Personally, I'd like to see solid color, matte skins with a softer texture.

I think that the Kindle 2 looks good, much better than the 1st one. I just wish that it was available in Australia without having to go through eBay. |

 Good enough

I like the K2 better than the K1. It's good enough that I placed a pre-order for one today for my wife. She is a voracious reader (at least compared to me) who reads 5 or more books a week. She also doesn't drive, so she only gets to her favorite book store if I take her. We will still go to the book store, but at least now, if she wants a book, she has an alternative way to get one. We might even save a few dollars since she tends to read NYT best sellers.

I'm with vivaldirules on the choice of white. Do. not. like. white. plastic. Has anyone noticed yellowing on the K1? White plastic tends to do that, and that's one reason I hoped K2 would be black. (Of course, I'm still buying it. I waited for version 2, but I'm not willing to wait even longer for a better color.) |

No yellowing, have had since June. Also, there are tons of 'skins' out there, like from decalgal, which look beautiful on the Kindle.

Glad to hear yours hasn't yellowed! Are the skins just clingy like the old Colorforms or do they actually have adhesive? |

There have been some great great reviews on the kindleboards forums about them. I haven't bit the bullet yet, but probably will. http://www.decalgirl.com/browse.cfm/2,289.htm

I've had mine since last December and no yellowing. I've had the skin a few months. We got DH's about June I think and it's also snowy white. The skins are adhesive but can be removed without leaving residue. |
