No, I didn't see 'Tin Man' (don't have the SciFi channel) - the trailers looked interesting though.

I watched it a year or so ago when it premiered. Tim hated it and didn't watch much of it, but I enjoyed it. It's not our childhood Wizard of Oz, that's for sure! Also, I like both Deschanel sisters.

Tin Man is about as close to the book as the Judy Garland version was. Doesn't matter. It's still a good story, no matter which version you like best.

Do you watch Bones? Her character is so stiff and unrealistic but I still love it

I watch it occasionally. It bothers me to see that my beautiful Angel is aging quickly and badly. Shallow, you label me? Perhaps so, but he was just such a pretty vampire!

No movie can be close to the book; it was a political tract.

Really? How so? I just remember reading it as a pre-teen and being confused because it didn't resemble the movie very much.

Have you read Gregory Maguire's 'Wicked' and 'Son of a Witch'? Now that's an Oz-ian head-trip! Highly recommend though.

As long as this thread is titled as it is, I have a new and interesting (to me, anyway) visual anomaly happening to me now. Almost constantly for the past two days now.

I noticed when I was walking the dogs yesterday, that I kept seeing lightning strikes out of the sides of my eyes. Forked lightning flashes, on and off, off to the periphery of each eye.

The thing was, yesterday was a clear day. No lightning and no thunder. I thought maybe it was a new type of aura and that I was about to get a migraine, but no headache came, and the lightning flashes just kept on going, all day, and all night.

Finally, I googled it, just to see if this was a real "thing" or if I was flat out going out of my mind. Turns out, it's a real thing. It's called "Moore's Lightning Streaks" ... although they make it sound as if it only happens in the dark. I can attest to the fact that it happens in the light too .... people might just not notice it.

It doesn't hurt, and according to the literature (online, anyway), it's pretty much harmless. No idea how long I can expect it to go on. At first it was making it hard for me to read, but now I'm getting rather used to it.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?? I'm just curious. I didn't see any stats about how common or rare this sort of thing is.

RM, can you say "opthamologist" Its not normal, and could it be the beginnings of a detached retina?

That sounds weird, Ricky. Definitely get your eyes checked. I feel like I've heard this somewhere on one of those weird medical shows or House or something.

Visual disturbance like this (I mean the lightning strike) is not usual for a detached retina. My vision is not blurred or even grayed out. Nothing like that. There's just this light show going on to the sides.

I see an opthamologist fairly often because glaucoma runs in the family, and they did a medical study of my eyes a while back because of the dual color blindness thingie.

Trust me ... this is nothing to worry about. It's just interesting. That's all.

Well, those shows usually get most or all of the medicine wrong anyway, so don't put too much store on what you see on TV. (Don't even get me started on the crap science they spout on that new show "11th Hour" .... that is AWFUL!!)

Nah .... really .... this is not a big deal. I just thought I'd mention it because, well, just because. My vision is fine ... it's just a case of Moore's Streaks. About as pathological as floaters ...
