Obviously there are other ways to insert an 'invisible' comment or the like: <?xyz?>

Why this!? Any distinctive features?

<?dp n="579" folio="579" ?> For what is such an entry good? (I guess and anticipate one of the possible answers: Ask the publisher!)
The example is from a very serious book.

EDIT n="579" folio="579 and so on are most likely unvisible page numbers.

<?xyz?> is an XML processing instruction (PI), not a comment; it is intended to give the software which processes the XML some extra information about the document which it MAY either use or ignore. Comments are written <!-- ... --> and MUST BE ignored.

In the case of <?dp ... ?>, the PI provides information about the document page numbering.

Workshop is more about process, this thread's is about the minutiae of XML, so methinks in belongs in the ePub Forum. Maybe the the OP's penchant for wishy-washy colours will be easier to read over there

@BetterRed The wishy-washy colours are given. I also do not think that these are better seen here than elsewhere!

The OP's penchant is also rather for bright colors, as is known.
