Okay. Its seems I stand corrected. Obviously, you can't make a blanket statement like that. Let me re-phrase. "There are very few athiests in foxholes" (or before tests). Disprove that. Whether you believe in an afterlife in heaven, with angels and harps, or re-incarnation, coming back as your personal karma dictates, or just becoming part of the cosmos, you've got to believe in something. What do athiests believe happens when we die?

Personally, the only afterlife or reincarnation I believe in is the life that will be fed by the remains of my body. I want (and must make a will just so I have it officially in writing) a woodland burial in a very biodegradable casket for this reason.

Again, if you don't believe in something, anything, what rock anchors your life?

Thats IT?? Decomposition? Then why even bother? Why do good, or be good? What difference does anything make? If this were true, (and I sincerely believe its not) I swear, I would end it all now. The lack of all hope is not to be borne. AACCCKKKKKKKKkkkkkk........dammit, I got roped in. |

I'm not looking for a reward. And I do what you've suggested (at least I try, I screw up a lot!) because its the right thing to do. Period. But seriously. What we have here? This earth? That cannot possibly be all there is. It just isn't logical. Okay, I"ve just written and deleted several sentences. I can't put into a coherent sentence what I'm trying to say. I think its time for me to back away, and let the philosophers continue this thread.

I'm not sure if I class myself as an atheist or not. I don't believe in a god in the Christian, Muslim etc sense. I do have beliefs that borrow heavily from branches of paganism. I honestly don't mind what anyone else believes in so long as they don't try and convince me to believe the same, or use it as an excuse to harm (mentally, physically, spiritually, financially etc) others. |

Also there has been a lot of claims about famous atheists changing there ind at death bead but when you look at the claims in more detail you almost always find that they are wrong. Quote:

I think it is bad if they harm themselves also. I think it is right to try to save people from cults that will destroy them for example.
