Why I said it could be pronounced two ways. Sow as in a female pig or sow as in putting seeds in the ground. I guess a smart sow could sow seeds.

Which English written word changes pronunciation depending on whether it's capitalised or not?

The obvious one is Polish/polish, but there are a number of less common ones, too. They're called "capitonyms". Another example is August/august, which changes stress when capitalised.

Eg: Polish/polish: changes meaning and pronunciation. August/august: changes meaning and stress. March/march: only changes meaning.

Sorry Harry, you are correct as usual. I was not thinking and have been up since 2:00 A.M. and am very tired. You are correct that any female hog who has had at least one litter is a sow. I was just recalling my youth and all of my relatives raising hogs. My wife was very surprised the first time she visited one of my uncles and saw he had hogs right at his back yard. Apache |

. I only asked out of interest. I often do come across things here that I hadn't known before, and I love to learn new things about words.
