Actually, if you stay in a hotel in Utah all the rooms have Books of Mormon in them. (Of course). And in my hometown of Las Vegas, the hotel bibles are all gold-covered. So at least they try, right?

I'm with you on the black thing - not only are not all black people American, but they're not all African either. It always pissed off my friend whose family came from Jamaica to be called African-American.

Of course, anyone with even the most rudimentary understanding of the English language knows that the term "Religious Intolerance" can only mean "the intolerance exhibited by religious people", as exemplified by the original poster.

As it happens, "The God delusion" is a well written and entertaining book, and not nearly as strident, if at all, as some religious people, most of whom invariably haven't even read it, try to make out.

As others have said, you are free to give up the chance to enlighten yourself a little and just delete it - much as I myself would have done if a copy of the bible, other than the King James version, had come pre-installed; after all, those modern re-translations truly are a crime against literature.

Sony has already had enough trouble with the whole Little Big Planet fiasco.

In San Fran, I found "The Ways of Buddha" along with the bible. Of course, I always prefer "Be My Guest" by Conrad Hilton.

As a total newbie to this ebook thing and the forum I just wanted to say what a fantastically well written and reasoned thread this is.
On so many other forums (is that the correct plural?) this would have degenerated into a personal name calling flame war but here it just sparks informed, insightful and often witty debate.:

You can simply delete it. Having faith usually means that a person chooses to ignore rational discourse from other sources regarding their religion anyway. Because that's what the book does, provides a rational attack against the superstition that is religion, you have faith just ignore it. If it really offends you, return the device and get a Kindle (but I have a feeling Amazon sell that nasty Dawkins book).

The University I work at has some principle to book hotel rooms without porn channels if possible even if it is more expensive. My reaction to that was that I wanted a room without a bible since it upsets me more than the availability of porn channels.

A hotel chain in Sweden removed the bibles from the hotel room and Church groups bojcotted them and encouraged others to do the same and kind of forced them to put them back.

I've been following this thread with great interest. I'm Irish and was raised Catholic. However once i was old enough to think for myself and started questioning the churche i realised it was not for me.

I've read Dawkins and enjoyed it as "A child of Catholic parents" i would like to make an observation.

why is it considered "intolerance" to simply question a set of beliefs

The reason i felt the need to make these points is that i questioned my faith and found what i was being tought lacking something and that while religion (Not faith) has been responsible for much good on this little backwater rock of ours it has also been responsible for what i would consider evils.

Whats the one thing i tooks from all this (I did have a point relevant to the discussion) if im interested in a viewpoint i will listen and learn. If i'm not interested then i wont and i don't let it bother me. Life is too short to worry about the little things.

As a devout follower in the teachings of Aesop's Fables, from which the bulk of all modern religion's moral teachings actually originated (and note that I avoided putting those words in quotes, italics, bolding or underlines), I'm surprised that you all haven't come to realize that it doesn't matter whether or not there is a God... nor whether or not you believe in one... what is vitally important is that if you treat each other with the reverence and respect befitting Human Beings (including not belittling others for their beliefs), all will be right in the world.
