@geekmaster: @BD's JB works fine on a PW2 (hell, I think that's the original device he tested on, as did I).

I guess I should have disconnected my wi-fi from the internet and run my own local jailbreak webserver. Oh well, maybe for my next PW2 acquisition, eh?

@geekmaster: Ouch. ^^. FYI, I have a dns proxy config posted *somewhere* in that thread for the "classic" install method. If it's a WiFi 4GB one, PM me, I might have a way to either kill it dead or do something useful with it . |

I cannot find my collection of USB TTL serial adapters -- thinking of using a spare kindle as a TTL serial adapter... But willing to try your idea, if it MIGHT work on this PW2.

When I used dmesg -c before inserting the usb sound card and then captured the dmesg output no new messages were captured. I.e. the usb sound card probably wasn't detected at all. (When I restarted the Kindle with the usb audio card attached the dmesg output also contained a line that said that no ALSA devices were detected.) It might interesting to find out what its vendor and device ids are. Quote:
My usb audio card was listed as (C-Media Electronics Inc. [0D8C:0014]). I'm curious to find out how common re-branded usb audio cards by this manufacturer are.

And just to do the right thing, I returned the 135 books on this used device, before deregistering it, so the original family (account owner different name than device owner) can download those books onto a different device (without risk of exceeding license count). It was the right thing to do... EDIT: Or maybe not? This kindle has a new document addressed to the ACCOUNT owner (not the kindle owner) saying "You returned this Kindle Owner's Lending Library book on May 17, 2014". Weird date; today is May 14, 2016. Not sure what's up with that. There were NO "[Returned]" books before, and now about a dozen of them on this device. Still learning how this kindle library stuff works. I mostly view side-loaded PDF files on my kindles, when I actually use them as an ebook reader... Now, I will try plugging my USB sound dongle in on this PW2 I just received, which has the latest firmware. EDIT: Nope. No sound device. Maybe only on a PW3 or newer, or a DIFFERENT USB dongle? I have the latest 5.7.4 firmware (no jailbreak) on my PW2. I installed the voice update from amazon. It added a 154MB /voice/ folder to my userstore. I plugged in my USB sound dongle and rebooted. I captured logs with ;dm search command. The only things relevant seem to be: PHP Code:

On the off chance that we both happened to have bought a usb sound card with an unsupported chipset, can you please post the lsusb output for your device. Mine is: Code: Bus 005 Device 010: ID 0d8c:0014 C-Media Electronics,. Inc. Code: USB\VID_0D8C&PID_0014&REV_0100&MI_00 @knc1: On full-blown Linux machines I can use modprobe to load device drivers; does the Kindle have a similar mechanism?

Used every time you plug or un-plug the USB cable for example. The Kindle kernel's module auto-loader is fully functional. = = = = Earlier you mentioned running a KUAL script to capture dmesg - If you meant my "dmesg to document" button - it does do a: dmesg -c command. So run it once - discard the document - do whatever your interested in - run it again - the second document has only the content **after** the first document. (All output from that button can be "cat'ed" together - I thought I mentioned that in the information about that button.)

Bus 001 Device 011: ID 0c76:1607 JMTek, LLC. audio controller Not the same as yours. But both of ours are obviously not the same as amazon's either (or they MIGHT work)... Last edited by geekmaster; 05-15-2016 at 08:19 AM.

The issue I see, is the Kindle is the (storage) Device end of a USB. Now the driver needs to flip and make it a Host (detect a device has been attached)

Some kindles are not wired to detect a device attached. The software needs to be told to actively switch modes and LOOK for a device. And for some kindles you may need external power (splitter cable or powered hub). We just need somebody to write a KUAL extension for that, eh?
