				Headless Servers and Calibre install

			Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, but have been running a server at home for many years now. I'm just wondering with all the new UI-less servers coming out everywhere, if there are any plans for being able to install essentially a headless (read: No UI) Calibre version. It would be awesome to be able to run Calibre server on a headless windows nano server (as of 2016) at home on older hardware. I can already run web servers etc on headless servers, but many apps that run with server components don't have CLI or server only installs. If I could run a calibre server on a headless server that means I could dump the UI and get a heap of resources back. After all I'm just wanting to view a published library across a network. Cheers! |

I don't think so. calibre's codebase is heavily intertwined, and Qt5 is used for various tasks even in the server.

So installing a lot of support software is not going away. ![]() On the other hand, space waste aside, the server itself does not require much in the way of RAM/cpu. ![]() ... Check the Calibre ==> Related Tools subforum, there are a few tools for running a lightweight server e.g. COPS (written in plain old php running on your choice of server). |

The calibre server runs perfectly fine without an X server. It does require X libraries to be present on your system, but no running X server.
