Will you be getting the new Kindle Oasis?

My parents are in their eighties. I think they are pretty much the target market for an ergonomic lightweight design.

Thanks for this info,now i am 100% sure i won't be sticking with amazon. Their ereaders,the software and store are great don't get me wrong,but i heavily favour the eink technology and i wan't it to go much further than it currently has with these single function devices.

I have only tried one non amazon ereader which was from a spanish company and while it did not meet my expectations so much as a book reader it's added functionality is too hard to pass up.

The only non chinese ereader that can currently stay viable at the moment is kobo as Nook in the UK has pretty much closed up and won't release a new device.

"Most" is an utterly unproven assumption. A poll on MR is in no way definitive (of even MR, let alone the entire market).

There's nothing to "get" except that you and some other vocal MR members don't like it. Hardly convincing of anything. There's always been a loud MR group that trashes each new Amazon device (pre-release) in some way or another. The voices change, but not the sentiment.

also it doesn't need to please most
it only needs to please a couple millions of people worldwide for it to sell.

The more I look at the pictures of the new Kindle the more I dislike it. I looks ugly to me with the huge bezel on the one side.

Heck ... there were people up in arms that the Kindle Keyboard's (then the K3) keyboard had keys missing from what was on the K2's keyboard.

Amazon is a business.

Products it produces just have to sell to enough of the market to be profitable, the same as any other business. You expand product markets by finding niches and filling them.

A lot of us (including me, but not a majority) want water resistant readers for outdoors. Amazon looked at the competition already filling that niche, and decided to go after the market for lightweight ergonomic readers first. There isn't competition for that sector yet, nobody was filling it.

I see no reason to but a newer Kindle if it uses the same old nearly feature-free software. I can get the results I want by running the books through Calibre and converting them, but it's a nuisance. I'd prefer to adjust it on-the-fly.

About a zillion of us have requested more formatting options over the past many years. Amazon just thumbs their corporate nose at us. There is absolutely no reason why they won't add more formatting other than they are jerks. It is obvious they have no issue adding FW changes to add new features to increase their book sales, but they could care less about the actual reading experience.

More importantly, do I care? I've never made a decision because of what most people want/don't want. You seem more concerned about what other people want than what you want, and you seem determined that everyone has to feel the same as you.

That's what I don't understand. Like it, don't like it...I really don't care. Don't belittle others based on whether or not they like it, and trying to organize some sort of revolt against Amazon because you don't like *one device* in their lineup just seems ludicrous to me.

Well I'm only 58, so still a while to go before hitting the 80's, but I already have trouble holding thin objects. I do have arthritis, and not all elderly people will have that issue. I do think the "thinner is better" philosophy with ereader, tablet, and phone makers has gone too far. If the device is too thin to grasp comfortably, then even if it only weighs 1 ounce it will still be unholdable for those with that issue. So no I think the market for the Oasis is more directed at the younger, trendier crowd.

I agree with you Jack. I am 68 going on 69 and I am so far blessed to be in good health have very little issues with arthritis. I read a lot on my voyage, I have the case on it all the time. I believe it is too thin with out the case.
I also have the IPad air 2 with a full case and here too I believe the IPad is too thin with out the case.
I am not the one that is going to tell anyone they are wrong with their devices, everyone has their right to their needs and usage.

I haven't trashed any amazon ereader until this one actually and im not anti-amazon or have a bias against them,i told you before this poll it wasn't just me who wasn't into the Oasis,i said someone make a poll and see if this device has been met with positive applause or not,i was right by 4to1 and your still going on...

This is not what people wanted from a new top of the line ereader,not to say it in itself is a terrible product but amazon have missed the ball on this one.

Your being the vocal minority not 'us'

I am a person that waits 6 months to a year after a new device comes out before getting it. So I will be interested in the reviews of this device. But as it stands now I will stick with my voyage and my PW2. I did not like the real keyboard Kindles but I had one that I used for years. I really like the touch screens. At this point I do not like the real buttons on this new one and while I know that the bezel being so big is due to the battery. It just does not like that great to me. But in the case it may be great. being left handed it in the case would be odd to use.
